other than Jay over Greeley, which I wouldn’t really call an upset, any others possible? Can we see the “B” schools in “C” (Byram and Bronxville) meet in the finals? I do think the Hill is a very live dog at PV.
BBB-
‘B’ schools in that they are the underdogs or ‘B’ schools in that they played in the B league? All four teams were in the power league this year, none in the ‘B’ league, and I think that both C semifinal games will be interesting, with perhaps PV having a clear advantage over Byram, but Rye v. B’Ville should be a good one.
Game Notes:
Rye beat Byram, Iona Prep and Brewster, all of which beat B’Ville.
B’Ville beat Suffern and Hen Hud, both of whom beat Rye.
All means nothing but it’s all we have to go by since the two teams did not meet during the regular season.
Should be an evenly matched contest, atleast on paper, and one worth watching.
actually neither! I was trying to be too clever, the school names start with “B”!!
the fortunes of all of these teams did seem to gyrate a bit this year…I thought PV a lock at the start, not so sure now..I think B’ville a bit banged up, and you never can count out Rye, particularly since they seem to have found their stride the last few…one or two kids getting hot for one of these dogs could make a difference, and it is likley we will have weather to deal with too..
Prep plays Guilford in the SCC semis. The game is worth watching because the early season tilt was close, at 11-8 – one of the earliest indicators of the Jesuits’ struggles this season.
In the SWC, I’m not certain that Weston OR Newtown/NM are capable of knocking off New Fairfield. A league championship would give the Rebels a 19-0 record entering the state playoffs (a phenomenal feat…42 straight victories, I think)…and, due to seeding quirks, they may not face a quality opponent until Wilton in the semifinals. Yes, the scheduling is soft, but Marty Morgan has built a phenomenal program in a very unlikely place. Most FCIAC snobs – including me – dismissed them after the graduation of CJ Costabile and Sean Macey last year, and they have proven us wrong at every turn.
I don’t think they will win a state championship in M (in S, they would be easy favorites for the repeat), but MaxPreps has two sophomore attackmen listed as starters; coupled with Nicky Costabile & Co., they present a bright vision for the Rebels’ future. In Connecticut, we haven’t seen a program “turn the corner” (in the sense that they don’t fizzle after one or two amazing classes) since Greenwich did it in the late 90s. In Ridgefield and New Fairfield, we may have two matriculating to the upper echelon this season.
fwiw, swlax, in other common opponents there is also Byram…Rye beat Byram 8-5 and Byram beat Bxville 7-6…which also suggests a fairly close game with Rye on top

Rye-Bxville –
Didn’t miss it, read again. Hard to gauge how these two teams will match up.
Here are the times for tomorrow’s Section 1 semifinals:
Games at 4:30 p.m. (unless indicated)
Class A
No. 4 North Rockland at No. 1 Yorktown, 6 p.m.
No. 3 Mahopac at No. 2 Lakeland/Panas
Class B
No. 4 Brewster at No. 1 Somers, 5:30 p.m.
No. 3 John Jay at No. 2 Greeley
Class C
No. 4 Byram Hills at No. 1 Putnam Valley, 5 p.m.
No. 3 Bronxville at No. 2 Rye, 2:30 p.m.
Note: The championship team from Yorktown’s first state title of 1984 will be honored on their 25th anniversary at the game vs. North Rockland.
James,
I think your assessment of New Fairfield is on the money. Marty and his coaching staff are a classy bunch. Good luck to the Rebels!
Rye/Bville game changed to 2:30 (think because of Rye Senior Prom)
Yorktown Over NR no dispute
Mahopac vs lakeland should be interesting
somers over brewster
john jay over greeley
rye over bronxville
byram over an overated putvalley
Rye lost a few games in the begining of the year to some weak teams but the wins they have just show to prove they hang with the best. They show up for big games. I think put valley or byram with both be on the losing end of the section cahmpionship. the defense of put valley is weak and unathletic, when rye plays them on a neutral field at white plains they will win by more than 5.
Town 16 NR 4
L/P 12 Pac 8
Somers 12 Brewster 5
John Jay 16 Greeley 9
PV 12 BH 9
Rye 11 Bville 6
North Rockland at Yorktown is now at 6 p.m.
According to the BOCES web-site the Rye game is still 5pm.
Game is 2:30. They could play at 3 AM and Rye would still win by 8 goals.
Brewster will beat Somers. We should have beaten em last week but we got big heads when we went up 3-0. This time we will be focused and finish the job. We can def beat John Jay in the finals. They’re very overated.
That’s what Brewster fans said last year, when many thought it would be a very close game against JJ. 13-2 isn’t very close.
Final: Manhasset 14, Friends Academy 6 in the Nassau Class C semifinals.
Of note: Rick Buhr won 16 of 20 faceoffs for the Indians.
Seaford meets Cold Spring Harbor in the other semi tomorrow. The winner plays Manhasset Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Hofstra in the final.
Thanks, Joe. Call it the Manhasset Invitational.
Mahopac 10, LP 7
Ridgefield 11, NC 5

LP 13, Pac 7
Town 18, NR 6
Somers 11, Brew 7
JJ 10, HG 6
Rye 10, Bx 4
PV 11, Byr 6
Brewster has made some adjustments and is much more prepared for Somers now.
Brewster 12,
Somers 10
Brewster fans are dreaming. It will be the JoJo Show 8 goals for Marasco and Somers will win like 13-5.
Joe,
What time and where is the pac lakeland game tomorrow do you know?
Expect JJ coaches to call a T0 seconds into there first possesion on offence. Greeley’s new defensive set will not be like ne thing they’ve ever seen.
Greeley 8, John Jay 6
this if they dont get 10 penalties
with the great schedule that jj plays I am sure they have seen everything. All I can tell you is the jj kids are pissed about the seed and coming in on a mission. JJ is alot better now then when they beat you 20-11. Your summer vacation will start after tomorrow Greeley Nation
Curious –
It’s 4:30 tomorrow at Panas High School.
thank you joe
Baldwin over Farmingdale 7-6 on a goal with 2 minutes left.
Heard GC/Plain was tied at 3 half way thru
GC 9, Plainedge 4 (Final)
3-2 after 1, 5-3 at half, 7-3 after 3
and the Suffolk A semifinals are at 11 AM on Saturday
Lynbrook gets no respect! Larry Glenz nominated for Coach of the Year? Come on guys he retired last year. If Lynbrook gets by South Side tonight they will beat Garden City for the Nassau County B Championship. How about a little respect for the Owls?
It says that was a write in vote. Either someone was trying to be funny or is misinformed lol.
