It’s Showdown Saturday Eve, and there are actually a few more games on the slate today than you might think.
Before we get to today’s game, a quick note about tomorrow.
Tomorrows Yorktown-Darien game will be dedicated to memory of Tom L.
If you are a lacrosse player or coach in Yorktown or Darien, then you knew Tom Lener. Tom L., who died last November, attended hundreds of games each year high school, college, summer camps, you name it.
Though he himself never played or coached, he was as well-known in the area as many who did. I’m told the winning team will receive a trophy in Tom L’s name.

Joe, I love the predictions, but the Connecticut lacrosse underclass is completely uncompetitive. It’s simply a matter of when the winning team – whether it’s Ridgefield or a noncontender like New Milford or Simsbury – calls off the dogs. The mismatch margin predictions here often don’t jive with reality.
Wilton 17, Danbury 1
Greenwich 16, Stamford 0
Why is Longo not playing for somers tomorrow
Hey joe
Did longo get hurt
Joe-
This is slightly off topic, but could you repost the NYS playoff schedule. I saw it on here somewhere the other day, but I can’t retrace my steps well enough to find it. I think you had the whole thing broken down with Sectionals, Regionals, Semis and the Championship.
Thanks and keep up the great work

Of course, you’re right on that. But I picked Greenwich to beat Westhill 13-5. I think you get the idea I’m saying it’s going to be one-sided. I try to avoid picking margins greater than 10 goals or so if at all possible. Even in games with a running clock, that’s what they usual wind up being any way. And no point in picking an overly one-sided score for these type of games.
Also, I will post news on the official status of Somers goalie Chris Longo for the Ridgefield game in a bit after I touch base with coach Lew Janavey.
Wasabi –
Here you go:
Sectional playoffs
Opening round: May 21 (at higher seeds)
Quarterfinals: May 27 (at higher seeds)
Semifinals: May 29 (at higher seeds)
Finals: June 4 (at White Plains High School The order of game is: Class C, followed by Class A, then Class B)
State playoffs
Quarterfinals: June 9 (at Albany and Hofstra)
Semifinals: June 11 (at Middletown High School)
Finals: June 13: (at Paetec Park in Rochester)
Joe thanks for passing the info along about Tom L. That’s so nice to hear the Coach Braymeyer and Darien will be honoring him. It shows just how special this rivalry is and the respect the programs have for each other. Rah rah Blue Wave!
Thanks Joe. You da man.
Seriously. The fact that a Yorktown or Section 1 guy is being remembered AT an FCIAC school speaks volumes. I never met Tom L, but I know he did a lot for the game in his own way. Plus, if you ever need all-time Yorktown information, his site is the authority.
Also, the winning team tomorrow will receive a trophy in Tom L’s honor.
Hey syracuse
you would have gottin along great with him, nicest man you want to me i do miss seeing and talking to him at games.
nicest man you will ever meet screw that one up
somers goalie out for game vs Ridge. 19-6 R
Doesn’t matter. So now we win by 11 or 12 goals instead of 8 or 9.
Agree with everyone on the Tom L memorial. As cuse said it speaks volumes that a Sec 1 guy is memorialized at an FCIAC venue. Kudos to both teams and play well tomorrow to honor the memory.
Joe great job finding out about the Tom L Cup and getting the word out. I wadnt originally planning on making the trek to Darien but now that I know all this, I’m going to make sure to be there.
Enjoy all the games Joe.
Tom was to lacrosse, what Einstein was to physics! This is a fitting tribute to a man who loved these two towns, the kids that played the game and rivalry that has thrilled us all…..
Interesting article about Yorktown native Chris Cos leading the growth of Alabama lacrosse at Hoover.

Good stuff, LAX. There are certainly great athletes at Hoover, which has one of the top HS football programs year-in, year-out in the nation. (As we know, that’s the direction lax is headed in athletes rather than pure lax players.) Folks may remember Hoover from the MTV series, “Two-a-days.”
