Wait, you say. There are no championships being awarded.

  1. lax - ref says:

Joe, any reason you are not including the SWC (South West Conference) from Connecticut in your playoff discussions. Includes New Fairfield, Newtown and New Milford who are the top 3 seeds in their tournament starting, today also. ?

  2. Husker21 says:

New Fairfield opens up against Pomperaug. I am a member of the coaching staff at Pomp. This is our first time in the SWC tournament and will be huge learning opportunity going against a well oiled NF squad. I’m not sure who Newtown and New Milford have but both teams have been looking great all season.

  3. Joe Lombardi says:

    Lax-ref and Husker21 –

Thanks for weighing in on the SWC. I was hoping we could get some discussion of it going. Keep in mind, we can talk about anything you want. Here, the readers rule. So if you see anything not being discussed you think should be, just bring it up and add your insights and info.

The complete SWC playoff sked can be found here:

  4. Pelham Power says:

Joe I saw your pick. With respect you are wrong. Pelham will easily beat Byram then beat Rye. You’ll see this team is legit.

  5. Section 1 says:

Pelham Power don’t get too far ahead of yourself, you are in the Putnam Valley bracket so you would have to beat them first to get a shot at Rye

  6. Sweet Lou Janavey says:

I believe the Nyack – Somers game is 4:15??? Anybody confirm??

Think this is the upset of the day. 12-11 Indians.

  7. PLEASE says:

    Somers buries Nyack

    re:lax –

Check the comments portions here for updates on games by us and readers as well.

By the end of the night, we will updates the main listing of this thread.

Thirty quarterfinal games — pretty crazy. It will be like election night for us with the results pouring in.

And yes – Nyack at Somers is a 4:15 start.

  10. LacrosseInsider says:

JJ up 7 to 0 8 mins left in first half

  11. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers leads Nyack 12-2 in the third quarter.

The Tuskers led 12-0 before pulling many of their starters.

  12. Joe Lombardi says:

    Breaking news:

Nikki Dysenchuk is back. Darien’s Dartmouth-bound attackman, who had five goals in an 11-4 win over New Canaan in last year’s Class M CiAC state title game, played today for the Blue Wave for the first time this season. He had been sidelined with an ACL injury.

Dysenchuk helped Darien coast to a 14-2 win over Brien McMahon. John Bolton scored eight goals for the Blue Wave. Next up in the semis: Greenwich or New Canaan.

  13. Joe Lombardi says:

Final: John Jay 14, Clarkstown South 1

  23. Joe Lombardi says:

Final: Connetquot 10, Smithtown East 7

  24. Joe Lombardi says:

One more note on Darien – in addition to the dramatic return of Nikki Dysenchuk (Dartmouth), defensemen Corey Caputo (Hofstra) and Matt Gorski (Ohio State) also returned to action.

If we do get a Ridgefield-Darien final as expected, who’s your favorite now, gang?

    This definitely changes things. Thoughts?

  25. LI Lax says:

    Whitman 15, Floyd 7

  26. Yo says:

  27. Joe Lombardi says:

No. 4 Brewster at No. 1 Somers
No. 3 John Jay at No. 2 Greeley

Note: Goalies Luke Haggerty (South) and Luke Robinson (Fox Lane) both turned in outstanding games in their final varsity contests. Looking forward to watching them both play at the next level.

  28. slacrosse says:

Good win for Rye over a tough Pleasantville team. Congrats to P’s seniors and the whole Pville team that played both a disciplined offense and zone defense. Hats off to P’s #’s 10 and 19 on attack who did most of the damage for Pville. In the first half Rye had a number of SOG stopped by P’s goalie who was strong the whole game.

Rye’s D tightened up in the 2nd half and credit to the Coaches making the unusual move of bringing the O on the field during halftime and going over plays which started turning into goals. Among others Santangelo, Foristel, P. O’Callaghan and McCormack (the ladder won vast majority of faceoffs and was vaccuum cleaner on ground balls) were key players on offense and Keough had some crucial plays on D.

Joe – Why was mahopac allowed to compete against suffern today when they violated the rules by scrimmagging versu college players? The coach was suspended for the game, but the state rules say that anyone who is high school will lose their eligibilty if they scrimmage college athletes.

Rye/Pville–Sorry on # 28 above. Meant to refer to Jack O’Callaghan on offense for rye but his older brother Pat played great as well.

  60. ByRAM says:

Joe thanks for showing faith in us today. Don’t count us out against Rye.

  61. PurpleReigns says:

I know Fox Lane has a sick goalie but thats embarrassing or as CROP would say embarresing Greeley only beat them 5-3. John Jay is gonna go to Greeley’s house and rock their house!

CROP give me credit … I picked Town to win and they didnt let me down.

  62. laxconn says:

Keeler Tav still sounds like an idiot, u predicted an 7 or 8 goal differential the first meeting, and u were very fortunate to win that game as anyone who watched can attest. The next meeting if it occurs in the FCIAC finals will still leave Ridgefield without an FCIAC Championship

  63. woah says:

    PurpleReigns-

I hope no one from JJ knows who you are and I hope you don’t play for JJ, because I know any coach would kick you right off the team for the way you talk in these blogs.

I hope you get shut up Friday. What was the score of your Put Valley game? 13-12, Put Valley? Greeley beat them 13-4 I’m pretty sure. Don’t get cocky.

  64. THE CROP says:

you’ll get nothing and like it.

you know you got nothing when you ride on one spelling mistake out of a paragraph for more then a day.

jay alumni agree that you are : embarrassing, emberessing, embarresing, embarazzing, embarazoso (spanish)..however you want to spell it, you give them a bad name and you convey to the community that jay fans are just awful.

You cant talk about anything without mentioning yorktown

you recite the song “You Drive Me Crazy” by Britney Spears, but insert words like Yorktown Lax.

Joe, i dont mean to pollute these blogs, like other blogs on the internet…i just find some people comical on here and respond. I’ll get back to my insight come friday, last home game ever for these seniors and final home game for the crop..you gotta love playoff lax.

  65. syracuse says:

Coming Thursday … A View from the Dome: ‘CUSE previews his choice for player of the year …

  66. re:lax says:

    Cuse-

Don’t you want to wait until the hardware is won? POY’s always come up with big games in the biggest games, no?

  67. franklyscarlett says:

Seems like Ridgefield and Darien are going in opposite directions with injuries. Notably absent from the Ridgefield lineup yesterday were Baker and Mueller. Don’t know the story on Mueller but Baker looked to have a heavy wrap on one of his legs. RIdgefield continues to be slow out of the gate offensively and its seems like everyone is now trying to eat clock and make things a low scoring affair. Didn’t work for Westhill as there were too many bad passes and lost face-off’s.

  68. Wasabi says:

Anyone know what’s up with Mahopac? The Haddeland’s couldn’t coach yesterday because some Pac alumni practiced with the team. Does anyone have an official ruling on that? It seems like something that’s been going on forever and I’ve never heard of anyone getting in trouble for it. The word “ineligible” was even tossed around for all the players who particiapted. I hope for the Mahopac players’ sake that this is not the case.

Who coached the team yesterday anyway? Was Corace allowed to coach while the Haddelands had to sit it out? Strange situation.

  69. Old Rugger says:

Can anyone give any insight to the Whitman / Floyd game. I would have thought that game to be a lot closer, even with Floyd possibly winning? injuries? Coaching decisions? Player on Fire?

  70. Lax Novice says:

I’d hope that everyone is being cautious with injured players, especially in these early round games. From hereon out, everybody able to go is going to be on the field. I’d heard that Dysenchuk was treading lightly on his leg yesterday, and he’s not on the scoresheet that I saw. Good for him to be able to get out there a bit, whether he’ll able to really contribute is an open question, I suppose.

My guess is that unless thunder and lightning actually occur, Friday’s playoffs all over the region will be on. Any precedent for postponing ahead of time due to the weather forecasts?

I also saw elsewhere that the Darien-Wilton semi is up first at 4pm, and Ridgefield-NC to follow. If anyone can confirm that please do.

  71. Joe Lombardi says:

    Wasabi –

I noted the Mahopac situation here yesterday as a comment on one of the threads.

Apparently some Mahopac alumni now in college participated in varsity practice. As a result, co-coaches Dave and Mike Haddeland did not coach the Indians today. The rules on this by the state are a bit nebulous. But as a general rule, unless there are special circumstances, that is not allowed.

  72. Wasabi says:

Thanks Joe. I don’t really see any harm in it myself, but I can see the potential uproar if something did happen. Things ain’t what they used to be, even in Mahopac, which always seemed like a throw-back, blue collar town.

Another topic here Joe: What’s with ‘Cuse reffering to himself in the third person in his latest post (#66)? I like his stuff, but he’s getting a little too “Ricky Henderson-esque” for me in this latest post. Hopefully, it’s just the latest National Title for his favorite team rendering his ego temporarily inflated, but Wasabi’s not a big fan.

  73. Joe Lombardi says:

    Wasabi –

The fact is many teams have had alumni come back and attend practices which they are free to do. As I said, the rules are nebulous concerning what they can and can’t do as far as actual participation is concerned.

As for the ‘Cuse third-person reference, that is a bit odd, Not sure what that’s all about either. I’m sure he will have a reasonable explanation. Who knows? Maybe Rickey was one of his favorite players?

  74. syracuse says:

From that era I was more of a Dave Winfield guy (IMO he was a tremendous player for the Yankees who got treated poorly during his time in New York by Steinbrenner, the evil Steinbrenner compared to the one who cried during the 1996-2000 dynasty).

If you haven’t figured out by now that I’m a bird of a different feather, you probably never will. But Wasabi, I can assure you that the third person reference wasn’t premeditated. It’s just ‘CUSE being ‘CUSE. See? There he goes again.

That probably explains why one minute he’s approved of for being objective and fair and the next accused of not having the first clue about anything.

    re: lax,

The current post that leads the site is pretty much self explanatory. I’m not picking a player now or putting the cart before the horse. I’m just throwing names out there with a brief analysis and hoping that everyone else chimes in with players they’d like to tout. Nothing more, nothing less.

  75. re:lax says:

Got you Cuse. Wrote that before the posting of the topic. Had just read the tease. Interesting but I think pretty obvious choices. Have to see what the next couple of weeks produces to see if a dark horse emerges.

  76. Doid23 says:

“It’s just ‘CUSE being ‘CUSE. See? There he goes again.”

Wow, now you’re referring to yourself in the fourth person…..:)

  77. syracuse says:

Doid … OMG you’re right. I’m going to have to talk to him about this. He’s a bizarre character. Wants to do the right thing, but is often misunderstood.

‘CUSE! Stop talking about me like I’m not standing right next to you!

    I, like France, surrender.

  78. PurpleReigns says:

PurpleReigns thinks “THE CUSE” is “out there”! LOL!

    Picks:

    JJ 15, Greeley 7
    Somers 9, Brewster 6
    LP 11, Pac 9
    Town 6, NR 4

  79. Admiral says:

I believe the FCIAC games were switched as an accommodation to Ridgefield who has a senior night event of some sort. These changes occur all the time to accommodate proms, SAT’s, etc. Ridgefield v NC will be the first game at 4pm and the Darien v Wilton game will follow.

  80. Joe Lombardi says:

Right you are, Admiral. I updated the FCIAC/SCC/SWC playoff thread with those times earlier this afternoon.

  81. UncleLax says:

Joe Lombardi drinking the Darien Blue Kool-Aid!!! Very disappointing Joe, very disappointing…

  82. Joe Lombardi says:

    Uncle Lax –

You’re going to have to explain this one because you’ve lost me, and for the record, I like Orange Kool-Aid. But don’t read anything into that.

  83. Ride the Wave says:

Yeh really. What are you talking about Uncle? I haven’t seen Joe pick a winner for Darien/Ridgefield yet. But he’s a smart guy so even though he picked Ridgefield to win in the regular season now it’s the playoffs. Even a newbie to Fairfield lax like Colsey has to know he’s toast at this point. You just don’t beat Darien’s coaching and tradition.

  84. syracuse says:

“You just don’t beat Darien’s coaching and tradition.”

That’s about as dead on as you can get.

  85. Joe Lombardi says:

Final: Garden City 9, Plainedge 4

  86. RayJ says:

Hicksville over Syosset 6-5 in a Nassau Class A boys lacrosse semifinal Friday at Hofstra.
