One upset I like is #6 Floyd over #3 Whitman in Suffolk quarters.
Somers likes to talk. They talk to the refs. They talk about how good they are. But they never win any big games. I know Somers is more skilled than Nyack and a better lax team but just like football, Nyack will just play the game, hit hard and outwork Somers. Somers quit at halftime in football vs Nyack and the same thing will happen on Wednesday. Nyack wins 11-6.

Suffolk picks
WI over Sachem North
WM over Bay Shore
Floyd over Whitman
Smithtown East over Connetquot
Wogue over Smithtown West
SWR over Sayville (both of these games will be extremely close)
Jason I know that was an attempt at a funny joke. But there is no way Nyack will win against somers in lacrosse,
Somers 15 Nyack 6
Joe its the game we’ve all been waiting for … St. Anthony’s vs. Chaminade for the CHSAA title. Who do you like and why?
I don’t know anything about Nyack except that they have no chance to beat Somers, so their fans really need to get a reality check
Jason is right. Nyack will come out and take it to Somers. Somers may be better skilled but Nyack has more heart. The same thing happened in football. Somers was unbeaten and #1 seed and Nyack went to Somers own field and won 30-7. That’s right 30-7. Somers field is our house now… Somers will once again be intimidated and owned by Nyack.
Dante’s Inferno (one of my favorites blogger names by the way) –
Yes, it is the game we’ve been pointing to since before the season. It’s a familiar scenario too. The teams split during the regular-season series them meet for CHSAA supremacy.
This time, I like St. Anthony’s. The Friars are not the same team that fell to Chaminade and Yorktown back-to-back early in the season. The offense is close to unstoppable and the defense is much improved.
St. Anthony’s 11, Chaminade 7
The game is tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at Mitchell Field.
Agreed, Joe. I like St. A’s by 3 or 4, but you just never know in this game. I’ll be attending, should be an interesting game, probably close for a while and then St. A’s will pull away.
You couldn’t be more right LI Lax. That’s definitely proven to be the case in the past. Having said that, and having seen a lot of both teams at various points this season even in the preseason I really think St. A’s is the better team right now. But like you said, that doesn’t mean the Flyers can’t win.
Well Joe, having read your predictions all season, it’s seldom you miss one. So I have to like the 11-7 pick here. Should be a good one.
joe,
what about the catholic state tourney? hope you had a good weekend my man.
Its Not Friday the 13th, or Halloween. But Jason you and I do agree on this one. Nyack will Shut Coach Lews BIG FAT Mouth , and the Somers cry baby’s that do give up will again! Lew, The refs are tired of you, and will take it out on you and your team.
Nyack -12
Somers-10

CO –
Thanks. You too. What games are you interested in talking about we haven’t mentioned?
the Iona Prep catholic state championship coming up this weekend at Iona prep.
Somers is our house!
Let’s rock that house just like we did in football!!
WAT
Pac Vs. Suffern Joe??
Pac alum –
I think Mahopac could be a surprise in the playoffs. I see the Indians beating Suffern 12-6 and then giving Lakeland/Panas a very good game.
CO – I’m waiting for the actual matchups. Once I have them, I will post and share thoughts.
thats why your the top blog in the area my man.
Best blog in the area? You’re definitely selling Joe short. I read blogs all over the place and this is the best period both in terms of the time and effort and level of analysis by Joe and the intelligent feedback of readers. Check out the other blog compared to this – it’s like walking into a grade school for recess.
Casual Observer –
As promised, here are the matchups. In looking at them, I rate Iona Prep as a solid favorite to win it all:
New York Catholic Class A state championship
Tuesday, May 26
(at Mitchell Field, Hempstead) Semifinal
St. John the Baptist vs. Holy Trinity
Friday, May 29 (at Iona Prep) Semifinal
Canisius (Buffalo) vs. Iona Prep, 4 p.m.
Saturday, May 30 (at Iona Prep) Final
St. John the Baptist/Holy Trinity winner vs. Canisius/Iona Prep winner, 1 p.m.
Final: SJB 5, Holy Trinity 2
So SJB will play Canisius or Iona Prep on Saturday at 1 p.m., for the New York Catholic Class A state championship.
Up next: Chaminade vs. St. Anthony’s/Part III
Thanks for the score Joe. Congrats SJB. Hopefully see you guys Saturday if we take care of business against Canisius.
OK I know you guys are wondering where my picks have been. Here you go.
JJ 15, South 3 – Savs play stall ball but in 4th so as not to run up score
Somers 30, Nyack 7 – Score from FB game everyone is talking about only in reverse.
Town 11, Arlington 10 in OT!!!
Who says I don’t like Town. I just picked em to win. LOL
LMAO. I know Purple Reign is not the nost popular poster among Town fans but that was pretty hilarious.
Hah. Chea. I just wanted to give a head’s up and what not so THE CROP doesn’t go into shock when Town is trailing Arlington in the 4th quarter tomorrow.
Your right man. Somers/Nyack is gonna be just like the football game and Nyack is gonna win again!
CHSAA championship game at Mitchell Field:
St. Anthony’s leads Chaminade 9-4 at halftime.
Sec 1 Class C, since no one else will touch it!
PV 16 Ardsley 4
Rye 13 Pleasantville 5
Pelham 8 Byram 6
Bronxville 12 Nanuet 9
Thoughts?
Joe,
Thoughts on the jay game tommorow?
Oddly enough purple, after embaressing your town, i dont think anyone likes your predictions, theyre equilevent to sports illustrated picking the world series champ..the mets got to be the experiment of the curse this year, although i dont think the mets need any curses to blow it..just their lack of hitting and bullpen pitching down the stretch in september
I’ll be shocked if the crop, i dont know if you were referring to me or the entire group, will be there in the second half..
Anyway ill try not to stoop down, but i could possibly count the number of state championships jay has on my left foot ( 2 of my toes are webbed so i guess u can technically say i have 4 toes..either way i dont think it matter does it?)
instead of celebrating that section1 is representing us well at the championships during the weekend (granted its great having them from your highschool u root for) , you just tried to knock down yorktown lacrosse..
you stay classy san diego
Final: St. A’s 17, Chaminade 9 Friars win the CHSAA championship.
SWLax –
Thanks for getting Class C into the mix. Most interesting game is Pelham vs. Byram. Pelham has some real good athletes a few with college potential. The Pelicans ended the season by beating White Plains. I still like Byram to prevail in a tight one. I’ll say 9-7.
laxitup –
Obviously John Jay is a huge favorite. The teams met just two weeks ago and only the 33-save performance of Luke Haggerty prevented the Vikings from being completely dominated. I will say 14-5 JJ.
Another good one is White Plains-North Rockland. That and Pelham/Byram are the games of the day. I think this is White Plains’ breakout season and I pick the Tigers 8-7.
Umm CROPPY you shouldn’t leave at halftime tomorrow. It will be a tough game and they will need you there to cheer them on to a close victory. But if you must leave early then you should go to the library and read a dictionary. It’s spelled embarrassing not embaressing. LOL
If your looking for a goalie clinic come check out the jj and south game tommorw.
Nassau Class B quarterfinal scores – from Hofstra:
Plainedge 7, Wantagh 6
Garden City 8, Calhoun 5
Wow. Anyone think that GC score is a little too close for comfort?
PurpleReigns
I think you made the same statement after jj played south the last time 7-3 after 3 i guess that really wasn’t a good time for stall ball either if Hag’s is on
jj will win but it be alot closer
Hags is not even good, sav will play stall ball for the whole 2nd half.
Syracuse,
GC has nothing on offense this year. I was going to watch the second half of this game after the CHSAA game but when I drove by Hofstra it was 7-1 GC mid-3rd and I assumed it was over. It was, GC just made it a little closer because they can’t blow decent teams out with the lack of firepower they have. Thursday’s game against Plainedge is going to be real interesting, both teams have solid defenses and below average offenses, look for a low scoring close game. I still like GC to win, but I’ll say something like 4-3.
LI Lax,
I know GC has struggled on the offensive end this year. I was just wondering if this one was close throughout or made to look close late and you answered that for me, so thanks.
SWLAX,
Agree with your Class C picks. Maybe a few less goals scored by PV and/or Rye.
