The fifth annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic is set for Saturday at Towson University’s Johnny Unitas Stadium and several standouts from the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region will be involved in the action.
A total of eight University of North Carolina recruits (more than any other program) will compete in the event. That contingent includes recent West Islip graduate Nicky Galasso, the all-time leading scorer in Long Island lacrosse history. The North vs. South boys high school all-star game will be televised live at 8 p.m. on Saturday on ESPNU.
Galasso will be joined on the North team by former West Islip teammate Andrew Hodgson. Hodgson told me earlier this month he’s eagerly awaiting the game since it will be played on the home field of his future college team, Towson.
Three players from Chaminade will also be playing on the North team: defenseman John Urbank and Mike Ehrhardt and attackman Will Himler. Jack Moran, who founded the Chaminade program 31 years ago and has been the program’s only coach in its history, will guide the North team. Another player from the CHSAA, St. Anthony’s grad Thomas Schreiber, is also a member of the North team.

ESPNU’s live broadcast of the boys game is part of a special lacrosse Saturday in which ESPNU will rebroadcast the national championship game between Duke and Notre Dame immediately after the boys all-star game. Earlier in the day, the network will rebroadcast the Division I men’s semifinals between Cornell and Notre Dame (at 4 p.m.) and Duke and Virginia (at 6 p.m.). The day of lax starts with the rebroadcast of two Face-Off Classic games played in April: Duke vs. Maryland (10 a.m.), Johns Hopkins vs. Princeton (noon). At 2 p.m., the Hopkins vs. Maryland “Day of Rivals” regular-season season game reairs.
Galasso and Hodgson will be among the boys and girls players competing later this month in the Champion High School Showcase at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Buena Vista, Fla. The boys event is set for July 22.

Sick game
Hey gang –
I just received word of a major commitment. Defenseman Nick Schuler, a rising senior at Niskayuna and member of the Upstate UA team, has committed to Johns Hopkins.
Assume the UNC AD is doing a “Steinbrenner” on Breshi in terms of EXPECTING a TON from his team given all the AA’s already on that team + 7 MORE coming in September!! He should be embarrassed by anything other then a showing up in the finals!!
Of course I want all the Section 1 kids who go to UNC to do well individually and UNC is a great school for sure and I can understand the attraction.
But I’m looking forward to next yrs NCAA for a “giant-killer” school of great, “blue collar” kids to knock the Tar Heels off as well as UVA, Hopkins, Duke, etc.
Oh yeah, and hope the NCAA puts forth their ban on commitments until the summer of a kid’s Junior yr.
GO Army! Agreed – didn’t this same scenario happen with Maryland in a way? And isn’t Breshi the primary guy that has promulgated all this committed nonsense that the NCAA is vowing to eliminate in the first place. I heard he has a 6th grader from Texas committed already.
Can you say
What a great season at Army!! Denver, Stony Brook, Cornell, Notre Dame, Navy, etc, etc, etc.
Thanks for the info
Florida is an interesting choice. I could see if it were in March, but July?
