Here’s the story.
Well, maybe just the first part of it.
Somers and John Jay, the two teams that played last June in the Section 1 Class B final, will be meeting for the first time since then, facing off tonight at 7 p.m. in Cross River.
In their previous meeting, Somers won 14-9 to end John Jay’s run of four straight sectional titles in what proved to be the final game of Nick Savastano’s 10-year head-coaching tenure with the Indians.
Because of the new geographically aligned league structure, the two teams will also meet for a second time in the regular season for the first time. That game will be May 4 at Somers.
And, if recent history is any indication, they seem likely to meet again in the playoffs, perhaps in the finals at White Plains, which was also the site of last year’s finals.
But first things first.
There are plenty of stories in addition to that.
For one thing, first-year John Jay coach Tim Schurr is the former head coach at Somers.
For another, Schurr’s sons, Eddie and Kevin, play for Somers. Eddie is a junior defenseman. Kevin is a sophomore defenseman.
Eddie has committed to Johns Hopkins. So too has John Jay’s leading scorer, junior attackman Mike Daniello.
Goaltending should also be an interesting story.
Last season, Somers senior goaltender Chris Longo combined for 43 saves in the Tuskers’ two wins against the Indians, including a 14-9 victory in the Class B sectional final.
John Jay seniors goaltenders Bobby Maher and Fletcher Franklin have split playing time evenly in the first four games, rotating by half. Will that continue tonight?
We’ll see.
There’s plenty to watch and plenty for lax fans to sink their teeth into — even those without a rooting interest for either team.
And, John Jay students are planning a “White Out.”
Should be a fun night — with one or more of them to follow.
Elsewhere in the Hudson Valley, second-year varsity program Westlake plays at John F. Kennedy Catholic in a game featuring first-year coaches: 1999 Yorktown grad Joe Bucello for Westlake and Nick and Vinny Savastano for JFK. The game marks a homecoming for Bucello, who was Kennedy Catholic’s coach in 2007 and ’08. The Savastano brothers, of course, come to JFK from John Jay.
In other 4:30 p.m. games, Byram Hills host Rye, Brewster visits Hen Hud, Suffern is at Putnam Valley, Mahopac visits Ossinings, Briarcliff is at Pleasantville and North Salem visits Wappingers.
Among the games in Connecticut, Darien plays a 7:15 p.m. game at Brien McMahon. Wilton hosts Fairfield Warde, Bethel is at New Fairfield and Amity visits Southington in 4 p.m. games.
West Islip visits East Islip and Farmingdale is at Syosset in a pair of 4:30 p.m. games that highlight the slate of games on Long Island. Among the other games on tap: Northport at Half Hollows East (4:30 p.m.), Port Washington at Hempstead (4:45 p.m.), Ward Melville at Walt Whitman (4:45 p.m.) and Connetquot at Sachem North (5 p.m.).
In the CHSAA, rivals Iona Prep and Fordham Prep square off at 5:30 p.m. at Iona Prep. St. Marys meets L.I. Lutheran at 4:15 p.m. and Holy Trinity faces St. John the Baptist at 4:30 p.m.
As always, be sure to post your thoughts on these matchups as well as any info on the scores and game details.

North Salem v. Wappingers should be a good game and ofcourse looking forward to tonights match up!
This is the biggest day of the year so far in Suffolk A, can’t wait to see what happens with WI-EI and Connetquot-Sachem North…huge ramifications as far as a top four seed goes in the playoffs. Also, WM has to go to a pretty talented Whitman team…they should win, but Whitman definitely has some potential to pull an upset.
Predictions:
WI 17, EI 12
Connetquot 11, Sachem North 10
WM 9, Whitman 4
Reign over Rage Part 1
PURPLE REIGN-12
Red Overrated Rage-8
Another potentially interesting game with ramifications to the leaderboard takes place today in Ossining, as climbing power Mahopac visits.
Mahopac has found their footing and are starting to roll, while O has already surprised with a 2-0 start.
Today it’s back to earth for the O indians as the M indians hand them their first loss of the season.
Rye at 3-0 Byram Hills. Byram has also pleasantly surprised and are formidable on face offs. We’ll see how they stack up against Rye face off king McCormack.
Brewster at Hen Hud has ramifications for the middle teams like these two and others like, Ossining, Fox Lane, The Rocklands and others as someone in the pack tries to break away and elevate.
Somers on the road at JJ. We’ll see if the Tuskers, defending champs, are ready to stabilize the ship, as the first half of their season teeters on the brink of disaster. The Tuskers face opponents with winning records in all 6 upcoming games, including tonight against JJ.
Have a great day!
Another game on this afternoon’s schedule is Rye vs. Byram. It will be interesting to see how Rye comes back after tuesday’s game. Byram looks to have won three straight with its loss against an improved
Pleasantville to start the season. Could give Rye a game…they have played Rye fairly close the last couple of years.
Rye at Byrum Hills 4:30.
JJ-13 Somers-10
Somers 8, JJ 6 … Longo makes 38 saves…
LI Lax,
Can you give a brief explanation as to the history of lacrosse in East Islip and why /when the division took place between WI being dominant vs . East??
Thanx
Yeah Byrum Hiils always seems to put up a good showing whenever it plays Rye be it lacrosse , football, etc. Have always felt they had a great fan base who showed up big at away events.
Thinkin WI over EI only by 3 not 5.
JJ 10 Somers 9 in very even game (see detail on other thread)
Rye 11 BH 8
Pac 14 Oss 11 (closer than it should be)
Brewster 12 HH 11
JFK 9 WestLake 8
Wap 12 NS 11
PV 12 Suf 7
Pvill 12 BrCliff 10
Iona 13 Fordham 9
Ok so i take Rye over the hills in this one 14-8
Somers over Jay —Somers big players just got their wake up call Somers in a close one
Pac over Ossining
Valley over Suffern in a very close one thanks to the defense and keeper
WI over EI… 15-9

p’ville 10 briar 7
jfk v westlake should be interesting very tough to say a score. I am rooting for sav’s in a close one.
slacrosse,
East Islip has been a school for years and years, long before either had a lacrosse program. The advent of WI as a lacrosse power beginning in the early 2000s is to the credit of Scott Craig and the development of WI’s youth program. They had always been fairly decent, but could never come close to beating WM or Sachem, or even Northport in the 1995-2001 period. WI first beat WM in the semifinals of Suffolk in 2002 after many, many losses.
EI simply has never put the emphasis on lacrosse that it’s neighbor to the south and west has…they have been known as a football school for the most part (it is Boomer Esiason’s alma mater), and I don’t believe beat WI very often in lacrosse even in the ’90s. Keep in mind that WI and EI are also not really neighboring towns…Bay Shore’s entire school district is in the middle of the two, along with some of Islip’s.
Taking the kids out to a doubleheader: Westlake at Kennedy followed by nearby JJ afterwards. MSGV is covering at Kennedy, and tonight’s game should be great. Looking forward to the info.
Somers over JJ 10-9
Kennedy over Westlake 10-6
Wappingers 14-9 over N Salem
Actually I’m going to flip flop and go JJ over Somers 10-9.
I’ll say John Jay 10, Somers 7
West Islip 12, East Islip 5
I don’t think the WI defense can hold a team that scored 17 on Smithtown West to just five…I have to believe that Rooney, Begley and co. will be in double digits…they can win if Hutchinson is able to win enough faceoffs to give them a decent amount of possession, and they can avoid turnovers that lead to unsettled opportunities for WI…that’s where the Lions are at their best, though I don’t think they’ll have that much of a problem scoring 6v6 against EI.
West Islip 13 East Islip 11
Somers 13 JJ 11
Pac 13 Ossining 5
I’m takin’ Peekskill?!
…this isn’t a basketball blog?
Never mind.
Slacrosse
Rye-Byram useless trivia. Initial rivalry between the schools was in soccer.
O’Callaghan’s folks both went to Byram. Dad was FB QB and BB point guard.
Slacroose u ready for saturday night
Byram 1-0 McCormick not field yet
2-0
2-0 Bryam end of first
2-1 no Cole so far F/O 3-2 Rye
2-1 at half, Rye looks terrible and flat, Bryam has some atheltic players, still alittle short on Lax IQ yet
3-1 F/O 3-3
4-1 Byram F/O 5-3 RYE
4-1 end of 3rd, Rye is getting outplayed
4-2
West Islip leads East Islip 13-5 in the third quarter.
4-3 8:35 to go
Byram Wins 4-3
Rye Byram Hills score?
17-9 WI final
Kennedy 16, Westlake 5. 12-1 at half running time for most of 3rd and 4th Qtr. Trodden at midfield controlled ball. Both teams a work in progress. Congrats to the Savs on their first Kennedy win. (Hope there are many more)
Byram stuns Rye 4-3 Final.
Whitman stuns Ward Melville 11-10
Whitman put up 11 on WM and won 11-10. Who said parity ?????
wow shocked at those scores…P’ville 7 5 over B’cliff…not a bad game for us, they won too many ground balls and face offs…looks like there might be 5 or 6 teams in C that can claim a shot…
Somers 1-0 Diana
Somers takes an early 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Matt Deiana.
1-1
Keep the updates coming joe
Hard to believe that a team that put 10 goals up against JJ’s D on Tuesday manages 3 against Byrum two days later. Cole was a definite loss and game changer but others on Rye have to step up. Thought Byrum was the more athletic and agressive team today and wanted it more. Credit to them. Byrum goalie and D were terrific and clearing was automatic. This Section is totally unpredictable this season!
Hey guys. Joe has bad cell service at John Jay so he will be sending me scores and I will post. John Jay leads 4-2 in second over Somers
Daniello has two goals for Jay. Indians have scored twice on man-up. Maher started in net. Fletcher will play second half. Still 4-2 Jay midway through second quarter.
John Jay leads Somers 6-4 at halftime. Daniello and Morris are each 2, 1 for Jay. Deiana has 3 goals for Somers.
O’Donnell unassisted makes it 7-4 Jay and it’s now pouring early in third quarter.
Beck from Brendan Morris makes it 8-4 Jay. Timeout Somers midway through the third.
Forrest Walter from Brendan Morris makes it 9-4 Jay late in the third.
Colin Tullgren ends the Jay run, scoring on an assist from Kieran Donohue. Jay leads Somers 9-5 very late in third.
Jay up 9-5 over Somers after 3.
Kennedy 16-5 over Westlake. Thanks Rugger. I don’t think I saw Trodden play against Croton, but nice to see the Savs get the W. Think Kennedy still has potential for some wins but still very raw. Interesting to see if J’s lead holds after half.
Brewster over Hen Hud 8-6
Ryes offense didn’t get off the bus. But its early and the have started slow before. Also a very young team.
Tullgren unassisted makes it 9-6 Jay early in the fourth.
Franklin has helped perserve Jay’s 9-6 lead, making several huge stops in the fourth quarter. There are 3 minutes left to play.
Donohue unassisted pulls Somers within 9-7 with less than 3 minutes to play.
Final: John Jay 9, Somers 7
Bcliff score??
Connetquot moves to 7-0 by defeating Sachem North 11-7 today.
tried posting before…P’ville 7 B’Cliff 5….nice second half for us, they best us badly on ground balls and FO’s…both goalies played very well…but definitely something we can build on
Eagerly awaiting details. You know, if Jay keeps winning, they might just end up in IL magazine’s top 20. I know its a long shot, but it does happen.
Mahopac 14 Ossining 9
Big game for Brando. Ossining had no answer for him.
Ossining tougher than we thought they would be, but still a solid win.
Mahopac D work in progress. Ossining O missed many good chances to score.
JJ 9 Somers 7:
Deserved win for John Jay, they outplayed Somers in almost all aspects and the margin of victory perhaps should’ve been greater than the score indicates. JJ switched goalies at halftime but not a bad idea as both looked great. Franklin did make some big saves in the 4th quarter, and although JJ did not score in that quarter they had many chances and controlled possession for the most part. Penalties hurt Somers, as well as the fact that Walter (JJ) won most of the faceoffs. Daniello was the best and the flashiest player on the field – his ultra-quick feet can break someones ankles. For Somers Deiana did excellent and he’s so fast, I think he had something like 3 goals! JJ’s two freshmen played well and Tom Beck had his first varsity goal. I believe Daniello went 2 and 1, Walter had a goal, O’donnell had a goal, Jimmy Morris had a couple, Chen had one.
Also got to give props to the Jay defense – they looked excellent and would often suffocate Somer’s offense and force turnovers. I keep on hearing how physical the Somers team is but Jay looked surprisingly physical out there – they have some big, tough, athletic kids along with Somers.
“…and the margin of victory perhaps should’ve been greater than the score indicates.”
NO STYLE POINTS! The score is what the score is. That’s it! If it should have been greater it WOULD HAVE been greater. Do not build the JJ victory into more than it is.
They won by two. That’s it!
Yo, Somers has GOT to get a handle on their penalties, which has hurt them in every loss. Penalties are a great equalizer and if they’re going to be playing man down this often they’ll have a tough time beating Greeley and Byrum let alone L/P, JJ and Ridgefield!
You’re right, I’m usually against shoulds and woulds and it is what it is. But I’m proud of JJ for playing well, and I’m sure Somers will get back on track soon, they have talent and almost beat St. Anthony’s in their first game! They’ve got to stop with the penalties and they’ve got to find a go to guy to run the offense through. JJ has Daniello, but I didn’t see any standout quarterbacks on the Somers offense. Someone needs to step up.
BIG AND EASY LAYING BODIES AND TAKING NAMES. WHO IS HE NUMBER 27 IN THE BOOKS NUMBER 1 IN OUR HEARTS. HIS NAME WILL NEVER BE SPOKEN BECAUSE HE IS BIG AND EASY
Somers beat themselves tonight…JJ was not impressive at all. Daniello…over-rated, hes no JoJo. Once someone on the Somers offense wants to take charge and stop with all the sloppy passes they will score 10 plus goals every game, but they need some more practice before all that.
This is just the first round of this rivalry, should be interesting when the kids in purple come to the Tusker Turf in May.
Only watched 3 quarters and Jay looked very good and pretty dominant in all aspects of the game except maybe transition where I thought the teams were kind of equal. Jay is deep in talented kids.
Somers’ penalties. Obviously this needs to change quickly or a few teams that ordinarily would lose to them may be given a chance to win.
Way to man up laxman, you get ten kudos! And don’t forget, my schtick is ‘no style points’ so I’m like a watchdog. lol.
Joe mentioned the other day that parity is making its way into lacrosse and I think we’ll know more after some of these home and homes take place.
Frankly, I was sorry to see the power league go, but having some of these teams play two times in the season I think will be much fun in the end. I’m staying open minded.
Byram with the seismic shock today! Congrats.
Congrats to Kennedy and the Savs. Now let’s get Peekskill off the schneid!
john jay secret is plenty of butter, wings, mayo, and salt before every game
Congrats to Byrum Hills on their win over Rye. They played very well, were patient on O and have some legit players.
As for Rye, the first half in particular was very poor in terms of clearing, ground balls. getting the ball stripped, etc. Bottom line is that this of course caused Rye to lose numbers of offensive chances to potentially score goals. Yes credit to BH for contributing to this disruption. Clearing got better in the 2nd half as Rye’s middies got more involved in this process.
Cole McCormack did not play. Rye’s kid did a good job and think FO’s were about even. I’ll only say that his FO strength dominance in terms of numbers won, ongoing rushes to the goal after FO wins, ground ball pick-ups, other offensive play , and generally providing Rye with good time of possession was MISSED.
But this in no way takes away from the very good game BH played. They are a good team.
Somers has been beating themselves all year so far, but frankly, I don’t know how you beat them by not being impressive at all. But you know more than me, I wasn’t there and I’ll take your word for it.
I was at Ossining/Mahopac and it was a pretty simple win. Ossining got down early and trailed the whole way after leading 1-0 about 10 seconds into the game. I thought the O defense did a good job as the game went on after a tough first qtr, but every time O scored their defense would give it right back. Pac has too much offense. They’re like the Dan Fouts Chargers all offense and no D. They better figure that out and transition if they want to win a championship.
Ossining has a middie on their team who is an absolute beast. #13. Scored three or four goals and loves running over people. Their attack is weak and missed a lot of great scoring opportunities or this game could have been a lot different.
Talked to one of the Ossining kids after the game and they have Nanuet on saturday, so we’ll see if they can bounce back. Pac plays next week at Yorktown and they better D up better than they did today or they’ll get a reality check of huge proportions.
At the john jay field i heard the name eric newman yelled frequently who is he and what position does he play. I would like to see him play.
F/O Rye 7 Byram 3
ya i heard that eric newman kid is really good i think hes just injured now but is one of the fastest kids on the team when he runs you can’t see him
yes, this is true when Newman runs you can not see him. He is a mutant who used to attend The Xavier School. His mutant power is that he turns invisible when he runs. He plans to try out for the X-Men full after the season.
Good win for Byram Hills, back in the day they were a strong program, looks like they’ve got it going in the right direction over the past few years.
expit – funny, but you’ll have to go a ways before I put you ahead of humminburd’s line when giving reasons that Jay would beat Rye: “Rye is a type of bread. Daniello eats bread”. That’s just funny
WHERE IS CHRIS BROKATE
You are right Chimes. Not happy with the way the Mahopac D played . No disrespect to Ossining, but Pac should not have given up the same number of goals as they did to Somers. They need to give the body more and play tougher.
I know there are a couple of new guys on D , but they need to find the right chemistry. Middies are not getting back and it is putting too much pressure in transition. Going to be tough to beat Town if the D plays the way it did today. Not having a game til then will also be hard on them, unlike Town, who has some good games on Sat and Tues.
i heard Eric Newman beat kevin drew in sprints once.
Eric Newman is an aspiring member of the X-men who transferred in last year from the Xavier school. His mutant power is that he turns invisible when he runs on the lacrosse field. So when you said that when he runs you cant see him it actually makes perfect sense.
Eric Newman beat Usain Bolt in sprints.
Eric Newman suffered a shoulder injury pulling two children and a two ton women out of a burning building, that is why we won’t be seeing much of his this year. God bless his heart.
Newman once made it to the final 10 on American Idol. He has a beautiful voice.
LI Lax
Thanx for the info on WI.
Dee-Up
Hey, Rye will bounce back strong on Sat. for sure!
also you may not be seeing much of him this year because he has the ability to turn invisible.
John Jay 9 Somers 7
From the statistics what is most noticeable is that Jay was more productive and accurate than Somers with less missed shots. Obviously penalties hurt Somers. Jays 50% conversion rate for 3 Man up goals was the winning margin. As others noted, between the two teams, Jay looked better.. Once again Jay controlled less than half of the faceoffs, but it was closer than prior games. Finally, once again Jay failed to put away an opponent convincingly in the Second half. But for a Somers pipe in the first quarter and a better outside shot (which has been fatal to Jay) Somers could have taken this game. With two more games to go, between these teams, the future results are still a toss up.

slacrosse,
down game for rye? mccormick that important? I know – take nothing away from BH. but I watched that 2nd half against Jay – and that was a spririted talented team!
Eric Newman has recorded a time faster then Mur the Blur. He was also seen in florida saving the dolphis at 530, he was able to make the trip back home on foot before the game started.
so this newman kid is taking my title he must be something else on the field. What are his stats this season
I interupt this Eric Newman fan club love-in for this important message…
I LOVE laxpower.com – totally takes out the emotion and fan fervor…
But Jay beat Somers tonight by 2 and lost 2 points in their power rankings, trailing Put Valley and Arlington (which they beat by 12-15 in a scrimmage). Partially due to the fact that Somers has underperformed to date.
OK I get it – it’s math….and I know it will be “fixed” at the end – and the geek in me understands – but come on – laxpower – tweek those formulas. We all know that Somers and Jay will meet for a 3rd time this year at WP for the title.
Newman has no stats. He donated them to charity.
P&G,
“Up”, “down”?? That’s all subjective. I felt rye would definitely win w/o Cole McCormack. Objectively, Rye lost. Yes, they were not the “same team”. Yes, IMO McCormack’s very special offensive scoring qualities were missed in this one goal loss.
And again, BH is a good team who deserved today’s win.
Newman is a fake….Saw him serving dolphin ka-bobs at a PETA meeting.
P&G I’m right on board with you. The laxpower rankings do not reflect a team’s ability, but rather, merely, a team’s ability to score goals against common and (non-common) opponents. That does not however, measure a team’s overall ability to win on a given day.
Anybody see Newman?
JJ Somers game was pretty good with only a few erant passes, goalie/defense miscomunications. Somers goalie stopped some excellent close shots. Penalties killed Somers. Nice to see JJ developing some patience on attack. Team speed goes to Somers, man some of those middies are fast. Somers attack seemed a little flat, need to move the ball faster and send more cutters. Transition game: Somers was faster and capitalized a few times but JJ seemed to always find the open man. Each of these games with Somers will be a Dog fight, up 9-4 win 9-7, up 8-2 win 11-10. In the 4th qtr JJ have to start playing all 4 quaters and Somers is getting too physical (penalties) Seemed like their sidelines were happier with hitting than scoring.
I know there is still more than a month to go and both are a work in progress, and parity is here but I don’t currently see either team getting past LI in June.
Congrats to Savs on 1 win and to Tom Beck (Fr, JJ) on his first goal.
slacrosse, Old Rugger, stats, P&G, and Ben lax man – youre missing the more important stuff here. Eric Newman is a legend. hes done unspeakable things on the lacrosse field, with lightening fast speed, and a jump shot that is unparalleled.not only his he the man, the myth, the legend on the field. but off the field he spends his time rescuing animals and baby children. he works endlessly to protect the lives of the people on this world. many would call him a modern day messiah. he is the fastest player in john jay history. if it wasnt for his devastating shoulder injury you would all know his power. i would give my shoulder any day for eric newman to run the field again. im sorry, im tearing up.
POW
slacrosse, I agree with everything you said but also when your leader is hurt, the rest of the team needs to step up. The D held Byram to 4 goals. The O has proved it can score more than that against one of the top teams in the section.
lacrosse geek is right. Rye had plenty of offensive possessions, plenty of SOG that they did not convert. Three goals (1 through 3Q) is not going to get it done against most teams. Certainly, Cole made a big difference, both emotionally and in terms of production, but I am not sure he is the reason Rye had poor clears, lost the ball under pressure, or was basically shut down in settled situations.
Wow, is Diana explosively fast or what!! Reminds me (only shorter) of seeing Drew burst down the field in transition.
laxie4,lacrossegeek,
Firstly no need for me to compliment BH which I emphasized above.
Laxie4, thought I was clear. You’re correct that specific phases of the game, which did not work at all for Rye, had not much at all to do with McCormack not playing. Aside from any consideration of Cole, Rye did not play well. Felt it worst on clearing where nothing went right in all phases of that segment. Look at the time of possession in the 1st half and sure it weighted heavily in favor of BH, with a large part of that due to Rye giving up the ball on clearing (ground balls, passes, catches, goalie getting stuck, etc). Rye lost numerous offensive opportunities to “try” and score had they cleared the ball. YOU NEED THE BALL TO SCORE. Then when Rye had the ball they just were not getting it done as they did vs. Jay.
Lacrossegeek. Absolutely correct. Rye needed to but did not get it done well on O. They should have been able to get it done much better, even w/o Cole.
Rye’s soph FO kid did quite a good job. But obviously for the reasons I stated in my original blog, Cole’s multi-purpose very high level offensive skills(high % of FO wins, FO “rushes” to the goal which have rsulted in numbers of scores), ground ball machine, middie offensive play, etc, etc, etc would have only added a major dimension to Rye’s O.
Next big text for JJ is next Saturday 4-24 vs. Corning East. Anyone know anything about them this year? We finally get them at home after all those 12 hour round trip bus rides over there!
corning east is very down this season. They lost 17 seniors. Dont overlook Greeley next week
This is been a year of REDEMPTION for John Jay – wins vs Somers, Yorktown, L/P … All teams that beat us last year! I’m liking this new era of JJ lacrosse especially with all the recent alumni now on the coaching staff – Carrozza, Hautau, Mike Bocklet. We have had some tremendous players of late. It’s about time we tap into their skills to help today’s players.
for the scores i’ve been seeing, i think class B is WIDE open. JJ is certainly not unbeatable although they have won their big games so far. Teams like greeley, with a bad records, have lost their games by a point or two and can easily make it happen in sectionals.
i think its going to be quite the entertaining rest of the season
I saw CE play at the Acompora Tournament at Northport…we (Northport) beat them 5-4, but it was a scrimmage and I am sure they were not completely at full strength. They have been rolling over section 4 teams so far but this is nothing new. They have a huge game against defending B champ Canandaigua Saturday, we’ll see how they fare in that game before deciding if they should beat JJ or not.
i see it helped against manhasset
The bottom line is Somers was banged up and still lost by 2 at John Jay. Take away the 6 penalties Somers took and JJ’s 3 man up goals and Somers wins. But of course you don’t take those away. That will be the challenge now for Somers – play physically yes but not take penalties like slashes to the head or 2 minute cross checks.
reLax – also from what I heard somers struggled on faceoffs which i didn’t expect vs JJ which is not strong there and the jj 2nd half goalie played out of his mind. will both those things happen again when they play again? unlikely. somers 11, john jay 7 in round 2
to say nothing of the fact petre/pfiffner were held scoreless. that won’t happen again either i don’t think.
Hey I thought we banned woulda/coulda/shoulda from this board. Jay was in a mode to kill clock. On that night Jay was the better team. period. no excuses.
ulax
Agree about Greeley. Careful, yeah they’ve lost but games are close. They are capable of stinging someone.
Yes this is pretty ridiculous. Also maybe you should actually be at the game before saying these these Beach Lax. Based on the way the teams played there Jay was the better team and there was no way Somers was going to win.
bello missed the second half and still jj only scored 3 goals in the second half. i definately think jj beat somers for the first and last time this season…
NEWMAN! ITS ALL ABOUT NEWMAN WHY CANT YOU SEE THE TRUTH! your eyes are closed, open them like morphious told neo and you will see Newman is the truth
Route 35 – excellent thoughts/insights. Well done.
Class Contenders
A
At this point way too close to call between Town, Pac and LP.
B
I’d go with J but if Somers wakes up, they have the talent to win as well. Watch out for Greeley. They can sting someone, particularly on their grass field.
