his week, folks. Playoff-wise and otherwise. In a moment, we’ll have info on Empire State Games tryout dates and how to register online. But first, it’s going to be a busy week of playoff action throughout the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region.

On the slate today is a busy week of Section 8 playoff games, with all games at Hofstra/ It gets under way today with a Class B quarterfinal doubleheader. Here’s the lineup:
No. 5 Lynbrook vs. No. 4 South Side, 5 p.m.
No. 8 Carey vs. No. 1 Wantagh, 7 p.m.
The other two Class B quarterfinals in Nassau will be played back at Hofstra tomorrow.
The Southern Connecticut Conference quarterfinals will be played at the home field of the higher seeds. Here’s the rundown:
No. 8 Notre Dame at No.1 Cheshire, 7:30 p.m.
No. 5 Hand at No. 4 Xavier, 4:30 p.m.
No. 7 Hamden at No. 2 Fairfield Prep, 4 p.m.
No. 6 Amity at No. 3 Guilford, 7 p.m.
With many teams’ seasons now over, attention for players in the Hudson Valley/Long Island region, attention is turning to this summer’s Empire State Games. Of course, the Games were on hiatus last summer because of budget cuts. But they’re back, and will be held in the Buffalo/Niagara region July 21-25.

And in case you weren’t following our coverage right here this weekend, the NCAA Division I final four field for this coming Memorial Day weekend is set, as are the matchups for the D-II and D-III title games, which will also be played in Baltimore.

Speaking of the NCAA playoffs, there have been a lot of memorable goals these last few weeks. One, among the six scored by Richie Ford of Stevenson University in a 15-14 overtime win against Roanoke in the Division III quarterfinals has been called the “sickest goal ever.” Another goal he scored in that game, the winner, in OT, wasn’t too shabby either. Empire games for lax, has become a sham. Last year proved You do not need it, and the looks are not there anymore, unless you have all ready been noticed.The coaching is suspect.
You want the recruiting process to go the right way. Play either Superstar or Westrock. You then go to good recruiting tournaments as well as have an advocate on your side with Roy, or Lou!!
His name is actually spelled LEW, not Lou.
Wantagh by 7 and South side by 4.
Another game that will be interesting is Bville vs Byram Hiils. BH has played a far tougher schedule and had some good wins before falling into a funk and then winning its last number of games. They have some good players including a very good goalie!
