On April 1, 2007, I rolled out a new blog feature called “Outside the Box.” It was basically a first-of-its-kind personality profile in which I asked players as many questions about what interests them off the field as I did about what they were up to on it.
The first subject was a freshman who was coming off a four-goal, three-assist performance in his varsity debut. We learned he was a little nervous when he entered that game against Shenendehowa, but that he knew that if he played with confidence, he could have the kind of game he did.
That player, Kevin Interlicchio, is now a senior at Yorktown. And he has had plenty of other performances like he did in that 10-7 win. As a result, he’s one of the nation’s leading players and will attend Johns Hopkins.
In that debut feature, we also learned that Kevin’s favorite TV show was “Seinfeld.”
When we launched the revamped LaxLessons.com in March of last year, we introduced “Player spotlights.” (According to Kevin’s profile by the way, his favorite TV show is now “Entourage.”)
With the profiles now up, running, and in fact, flourishing, we wanted to introduce a feature that was a bit more in-depth as we get set for the start of another season.
Welcome to “Player perspectives.” In it, players from the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region will be sharing their thoughts at various points of the season, including the preseason, in a Q&A format. It’s similar to our “Recruit spotlight extra” feature, except the subject is not recruiting.
Look for our inaugural “Player perspective” here soon. With plenty more to follow.
And if you are a player who is interested in participating, shoot me an e-mail at joe@laxlessons.com.

Great idea Joe. Like everything you do I’m sure it will be imitated but no one will come close to matching the quality. Looking foward to it.
Great idea Joe!
