Twenty-eight teams came from all over — even as far away as Israel.

But the last two squads standing represented two of the best programs in the NY/NJ/CT tristate spot.

The Long Island Express parlayed dominance in the faceoff X with an unselfish offense to pull away for a 12-4 win over Prime Time Sunday night in a July 4th showdown in Denver telecast live on ESPN2.

Alec Gregorek of Shoreham-Wading River (left) had six goals and teammate Joey Terenzi of Manhasset Middle School had three. Matt Byrnes, Charles Balsamo and Luke DeRosa also scored goals. Jack Cascadden of Garden City dominated faceoffs, winning more than 80 percent for the game and eight of nine in the first half as the Express limited Prime Time to one offensive possession in the first quarter.

Prime Time jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tyler Wishhart of John Jay Middle School before the Express came back to take a 3-1 lead after the first quarter and 6-2 advantage at the half.

Harry Griff, a natural righty from Yorktown, had two goals, including a lefty goal. Mike Rooney had the other goal for Prime Time.

Prime Time advanced to the title game with a dramatic win over Igloo earlier in the day.

Each team played eight games in the third annual event. The Express won seven straight after dropping their opening game.

The Express also finished as the tournament’s highest-scoring team. Tyler Kellogg of Prime Time was the event’s leading scorer. Kellogg, of Trinity-Pawling, had his shot clocked at 102 MPH in winning the fastest shot competition.
