Since beginning play with the 2013 season, Marquette University’s men’s lacrosse program has made a rapid ascent to the status of Division I power.
Now, the Golden Eagles have reached into the stable of talent at one of the nation’s most tradition-rich programs, Manhasset, where Class of 2018 LSM James Amorosana has committed to Marquette, a decision first reported when it was made this past summer by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-9, 145-pound Amorosana is a hard-charging, rangy lefty with good speed and athleticism and a high lacrosse IQ who is adept at getting groundballs.
He was Manhasset’s first 2018 commit.
Amorosana performed well at the Long Island Showcase played at Farmingdale State University in June.
Now, here’s a Q&A with James on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Marquette University is a great academic institution with a rich tradition for athletics.
Marquette has built its lacrosse team into one of the best teams in the country since starting the program in 2011.
With new state-of-the-art facilities on the way, and a great coaching staff already in place, I believe there will be many opportunities for me to succeed there.
The campus was also beautiful and the overall atmosphere at the school is amazing.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited and considered Navy, Richmond, and Air Force.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths as a player would be using my speed and my ability to pick the ball off the ground to create transition opportunities. I’m aggressive and my lacrosse IQ makes up for my size.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I believe that I need to work on all aspects of my game because there is always room for improvement. But most importantly I need to work on getting bigger and stronger.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
Growing up in Manhasset I was exposed to lacrosse at a very young age. Starting in kindergarten our town would hold clinics every weekend. I have also played football, soccer, and basketball.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play on the Team 91 2018 Extreme Team. I participated in Maverik Showtime and Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip Camp.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
First, I would like to thank my parents for everything that they do for me. My dad works very hard to put me on club teams and has spent countless hours driving me around to various lacrosse events. Without him, none of this would be possible. My mom has also always supported me by coming to all my games and I appreciate that. Also my Uncle Bob has always supported me. I could be playing in a hurricane and he would still be there.
I would also like to thank my Manhasset coaches Nick Armstrong and Bill Cherry for helping me and supporting me throughout the recruiting process.
Finally, I would like to thank my club coach Sal LoCascio. He always expects perfection and has taught me to never stop working hard.
