National power Yorktown, New York’s 2014 Class B state champ and state finalist in 2016 and state semifinalist in 2015, has its first Class of 2019 commitment.
It comes from two-way midfielder Keegan Dooler, who committed to Richmond late last week, a decision was first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section,
The 5-foot-10, 167-pound righty has good size for his age along with a strong shot. He made Yorktown’s varsity as a freshman this past spring.
Doller is Richmond’s first rising sophomore tristate commit,
Now, here’s a Q&A with Keegan on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Richmond is an excellent university, with a strong alumni network and established internships, a beautiful campus and great coaching staff.
The lacrosse program is getting stronger every year and (Head) Coach (Dan) Chemotti’s goal is a national championship.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited and considered Binghamton, Siena, Providence, Air Force and Holy Cross.
Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
No, but Richmond offers many various majors that I am considering.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I am a two-way middie that enjoys playing defense and starting offense from the D end of field.
I’m a team-first player that enjoys contributing in all areas on the field GBs, defense, offense, clearing, etc.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to continue to improve all areas of my game but especially my lefty shot, field vision and patience.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
My dad and uncle introduced me to lacrosse throwing the ball around at the beach.
What other sports have you played?
I have enjoyed playing football and basketball but really enjoy snowboarding.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
Express North and Yorktown Ballers. I participated in the Jake Reed Camp and Maverik Showtime.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I’ve been very fortunate to grow up in Yorktown and receive great coaching and support from people who really care about my personal development as well as my team.
I’d like to thank my family and great teammates and all of my coaches: my dad, my Uncle Christian, Dave Marr, Sean Carney, Rob Doerr, Tom Regan, Joe Borges, Chris Schreiber, Darren Muller, Marty Morgan, Tim Weir and Walter Grabeklis.
