It was made in the hometown of Pride head coach Seth Tierney — Massapequa — where attackman Sam Lutfi verballed, a decision previously reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

A quick and agile player, the 5-foot-7, 135-pound Lutfi, a lefty, is quick and elusive and especially dangerous from the X position and outside the crease.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Sam on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I really loved the school when I visited, and I thought it would be a perfect fit for me since my whole family lives on Long Island and they can get to see me play. I loved the coaching staff and the facilities that the school has.

What schools were you considering and what other schools did you visit?
I was considering Brown, Loyola, Lehigh and Hofstra. When I visited Brown, I thought it was the perfect school for me. But, when I visited Hofstra, I felt that Hofstra was a better fit and I fell in love with the school.

Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
I have an idea of going into the Business area at Hofstra because Hofstra has a great Business school.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My style of play would be more on the gritty side and constantly hard working on the field. I am not afraid of going for the loose ground balls, and I have a high IQ for the game. Being that I’m an attackman, I can also feed and finish the ball very well.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
Being more explosive off my dodge from behind the cage, and coming around the cage to get my hands free and shoot.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I first started playing lacrosse when I was 4 years old, and my dad was the one who introduced me to the sport. Because most of my family has played lacrosse, I always had a stick in my hand since then.

Other sports I have played were travel ice hockey and basketball.

What travel team do you play on and what showcase events did you participate in?
I play on Team 91 Orange 2019 for Coach Jim Mulé.

The showcases I have participated in were Adrenaline Black Card, NLF Showcase, Brine National team, and I will be attending Jake Reed Blue Chip this summer.

Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I want to thank my parents for helping me reach this point in my life. Without them, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
