Ridgefield was thisclose to coming away with its first state championship since 2011 last season, falling to two-time CIAC champ Darien in the Class L title game.

For a look at the 2016 Tigers, we turn to Peter Dearth.

The midfielder, who committed to Syracuse University in February 2014, is one of the nation’s top seniors.

The 6-foot-2 righty has been a member of the Orange squad since his freshman year.

Now, here are Peter’s perspectives on the upcoming season.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
We have practices on Tuesdays as a team, and some of the guys paplayerperspectiverticipate in three-on-three box games on Sunday night. We’ve also encouraged everyone to get in the weight room with the older guys.

How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
As always we’re looking forward to Darien, Greenwich and New Canaan. Additionally we’re hosting the Battle of the Sound this year, so Garden City will be a fun home game for us.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
I think Bobby Philbin, Alec Mullin and Greg Gatto will all step up and have big years for us.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
Our biggest strength this year will be our seniors. Most of our starters will be seniors, and that experience will help us in all aspects of the game.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
Everyone knows Darien is the team to beat. We’re hoping to pick up where we left off last year, but this time come out on top.
