Shahe Katchadurian stands out for the boys lacrosse team at John Jay High School (NY) even before the game’s opening faceoff.

After all, the 6-foot-2, 240-pound Katchadurian is a physically imposing goaltender.

The tower of power uses his size to his advantage and it’s one of the reasons he’s emerged as one of the nation’s top Class of 2018 goaltenders.

Earlier this week, Katchadurian decided where he will play his college lacrosse, giving a verbal commitment to Syracuse University, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The tough-minded righty stopper who performed well at the Maverik Showtime National Lacrosse Recruiting Spotlight this past summer.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Shahe on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Syracuse has one of the best business schools in the country and a great lacrosse program.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Loyola and Lehigh. I also visited Maryland, Colgate and Providence.

Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
Business

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are that I am able to use my big body to my advantage in taking up more of the cage and stopping the ball, and I am a very vocal person who is able to communicate well with my teammates.

What area of your game do you need to work on? 
To get quicker and more agile in the cage.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
When I was in second grade I started playing because most of my friends played and I wanted to try something new since no one in my family had played before.

I also play football and played soccer and baseball when I was younger.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Prime Time Lacrosse and I have participated in Maverick Showtime, NXT Philly Showcase, Adrenaline Black Card, Moonlight Lacrosse Showcase, and Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip.

Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would like to thank my mom and dad for giving up so much time and money to allow me to have this opportunity and my three brothers for always being there for me.

Next, I would like to thank my club director Nick Daniello for all the hard work he did to get me here, my current Prime Time coaches Chris Daniello and Tom Guadagnolo for always pushing me during practice and all my former Prime Time Coaches.
