Ben Girolamo had his sights set on attending college lacrosse in Boston long before Boston University launched its men’s program.
The Class of 2018 Pelham (NY) attackman wanted to go to college in Boston as a youngster, well before the Terriers started their first D-I season in 2013.
Earlier this month, Girolamo committed to Boston U., a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-8, 145-pound Girolamo is a quick, elusive righty with a high skill set and high lacrosse IQ as well.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Ben on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Some of the main factors in my decision were the high level of education, great location, dedicated coaching staff, and an overall great lacrosse program at Boston University.
I have wanted to go to school in Boston since I was young, so BU was really the perfect place for me.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered other patriot league schools and ivy league schools.
Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
I am considering majoring in English Literature.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Dodging and feeding. I like to draw slides and find the open man, as well as push the ball in transition.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I would like to improve my time-and-room shot, on the run shot, off hand, and overall strength as a player.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
From my youth coach, Matt Tolan, who helped me become the best player I can be.
I currently play soccer and golf, but in the past I have played basketball as well.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the Long Island Express North lacrosse team based out of Northern Westchester.
I attended Nike Blue Chip, Platinum Cup, Philly Showcase, Fab Frosh Showcase, Good to Great Showcase, and Run With The Best Showcase.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would first like to thank my parents who support me through anything I want to pursue. If they didn’t help me throughout my recruiting process I would not have the opportunity that I have here today.
I would also like to thank my club coaches, Schreiber, Reda, and Chanenchuk for all of their support and help through the recruiting process.
I also want to thank my varsity coach, Michael Solazzo, for helping me become a better player and also helping me with recruiting. Additionally, I would like to thank my JV coach, James Rogers who prepared me to play at the next level.
Lastly I would like to thank my youth coach, Matt Tolan, for starting Pelham’s youth program and introducing me to lacrosse.
