No matter what the sport, Steven Ramirez knows how to score.
A wide receiver on the Suffolk County (NY) finalist Lindenhurst football team, Steven Ramirez just wrapped up the season with nine touchdown receptions for unbeaten the Bulldogs, who finished the season 10-1.
As a midfielder in lacrosse, Ramirez was a 50-goal scorer on Lindy’s varsity lacrosse team this past spring.
Lacrosse is the sport the junior will be playing at the next level. He’s verbally committed to the University at Albany, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-9, 150-pound righty is a quick, athletic and agile player who thrives in transition.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Steven on his commitment.
What we’re the main factors in making your decision?
The biggest factor was that I’d be comfortable with the school and got along with the guys I would possibly be playing with at the next level.
Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
I have no idea what I want to do.
What are the strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My greatest strength is pushing transition and shooting on the run.
My style of play would be best described as up-tempo fast paced and strategic.
What were the keys to the football teams success in the fall?
We were a really hard-working team that was on the same page the whole year.
Does football help you on the lacrosse field?
Football helps me in a huge way. Football helps me with its physicality and in seeing the field a lot better.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and when did you start as well as football?
I first got introduced to lacrosse when I was around 6-7 years old watching my sister as well as my neighbors play and be very successful in high school as well as college. Also I started to play football at the age of 5.
What travel team do you play on? What showcase events have you participated in?
I play for Team 91 and used to play for the South Shore Baymen.
Some showcase events I’ve participated in was adrenaline Black Card, Brine National tournament, and Rising juniors nassau suffolk game.
Any final thoughts?
I just wanted to thank all of my coaches, friends, and family that supported me throughout my lacrosse and football career it’s a great feeling be able to achieve such a big goal.
