Originally from the lacrosse hotbed of Cohasset, MA, Davis Cronin couldn’t help but be exposed to the sport at an early age.
“Almost every kid was playing in elementary school, so that’s what got me into it,” said Cronin.
Now a faceoff midfielder at New Hampton Prep in New Hampshire, Cronin is just two varsity seasons away from starting a Division I playing career in the sport.
He just committed to Binghamton, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-9, 155-pound Cronin, a righty, has quick hands and feet and excels in moving the ball off faceoffs to either himself or wings.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Davis on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
After my visit at Binghamton I knew that it was the right school for me. Coach Nelson, Coach Francis, and Coach Skelly all made me feel at home.
The campus is beautiful and Binghamton has a great academic reputation as well. The lacrosse program is very competitive and headed in the right direction. It was a perfect fit.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I strongly considered Hobart College, RIT and Merrimack College.
Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
Economics.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would describe myself as a player with quick hands and feet. I like to win the ball forward and backward, to either myself or my wings off the faceoff.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work on being not just a “FOGO,” but an all-around midfielder.
What other sports have you played?
I’m a former wrestler at my old school, and have also played soccer and basketball at New Hampton.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the 2017AA Laxachusetts Minutemen. This summer I attended NSCLA, Jake Reed’s Nike Bluechip, Legacy Invitational, and the Philly Summer Invitational.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
First off I want to thank my faceoff coach, Greg Gurenlian. He’s taught me everything I know about faceoffs and I definitely wouldn’t be the player I am today without him.
I also want to thank my coach at New Hampton, Justin Simon, for always believing in me and supporting me throughout the years. He’s turned around the lacrosse program at New Hampton and led us to our first-ever championship season this year.
Lastly, I want to thank my family for supporting me and traveling with me to all my recruiting events.
