Jack Collins began attracting Division I interest after making the Denver Shootout all-star game in 2014.
Now, a year later, the Class of 2018 attackman at the Taft School has decided on his college destination, verballing committing to the admissions process at Bucknell, a decision first reported when it was made last week by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound Collins is a skilled and polished feeder/finisher with a high lacrosse IQ. He has good stick skills and is especially dangerous in creating and dodging from X. A natural righty, he’s strong with both hands.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Jack on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Bucknell offers a great balance of lacrosse, academics and social life.
I also connected with the coaches really well and liked the campus a lot.
What other schools were you considering and what other schools did I visit?
I visited Cornell, Princeton, Richmond, Fairfield, Holy Cross and Penn State.
Have you decided what academic major you would like to pursue?
Business or Finance.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths include my lacrosse IQ, passing ability, ability to pass and shoot with both hands and make few turnovers.
I would describe my style of play as one that can get other players involved, but can also finish and makes few mistakes while doing it.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
My quickness, strength and getting a stronger outside shot.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports did you play?
I was introduced to lacrosse by my dad in second grade.
Other sports I played growing up were football, basketball and skiing.
What travel team do you play on and what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for 3d New England and 3d National. For 3d, I went to Lake Placid (U-16), the Sweetlax Invitational and played at the Baltimore Summer Kickoff and FLG in 3d with the 2017s.
Over the summer, I also went Maverik Showtime, Adrenaline Black Card and Sweetlax Showcase.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would like to thank my family, especially my parents for driving me all over the country to events and for paying for all of the events.
I would also like to thank Dave Jenkins, Peter Sessa and Matt Rowley from 3d for giving me the opportunity to play for 3d and helping me throughout the process.
Also, my Taft head coach, Casey D’Annolfo, for helping me become a better player and for guiding me throughout the process.
Lastly, Ted Garber, who helped me and my family through the entire recruiting process.
