Connor Filipowski was the defensive catalyst of Warwick’s rise in Hudson Valley (NY) lacrosse this past spring.

The two-time All-America helped the Wildcats win their first 18 games and become the first-ever Section 9 team to make the New York State Sportswriters Association rankings.

Now, Filipowski has decided where he will take his talents to the next level, verbally committing to the Universit at Albany, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 6-foot, 205-pound Filipowski, a righty, is a physical, aggressive and agile takeaway defender adept at getting groundballs and who excels in transition.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Connor on his commitment.

Recruiting abstract

What were the main factors in your decision?
I was interested in medium size school where I could major in business and play on a competitive lacrosse team.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Tampa.  I visited The College of Saint Rose, Manhattan College, SUNY Morrisville and Pennsylvania College of Technology.

Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
I would like to pursue a business degree.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are groundballs and stick control.  Also I am a physical player.

cfilipowskitweetWhat area of your game do you need to work on?
I need work on playing with my left hand.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I watched my brother Tyler play lacrosse for three years.  I began playing in third grade, which was the earliest I could begin in our town.

Other sports I have played are Little League baseball, youth basketball and this year, as a senior, I am playing football.

What travel team do you play on and what showcase events did you participate in?
The travel team I play on is Hudson Valley Express.  I have gone to many showcases and camps including Blue Chip 225, Under Armour All-America tryouts, UMass Summer/Fall Classics, Crimson Classic, Lehigh Laxfest.

Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would like to thank my parents and my brother, my varsity coach, Graig McElroy; Hudson Valley Express coaches Matt Cameron and Edgar Glascott, and a special thank you to coach Jim Morrissey from The College of Saint Rose and Mr. Joe Hayes.
