Football fever is in the air and on Sunday at noon on “Tristate Lacrosse Spotlight with Joe Lombardi,” it was on the air.
The focus of the half-hour September Special, on the first NFL Football Sunday of the season, was football.

* Duke University freshman midfielder Brad Smith, a star quarterback at New Jersey power Mountain Lakes who ended his varsity career last fall (No. 16, above) by leading the Lakers to a 24-game win streak and the last two NJSIAA North 2 Group II titles. Smith has advanced to the final 50 in the U19 National lacrosse team tryout process.
* Dual-threat QB Danny Caroussos (above), a returning starter for Long Island power Smithtown West, who scored three touchdowns Friday in a season-opening win over Copiague.
* Nick Crennan (above), who enjoyed an outstanding season in his first season as a junior starter last fall just a bit further west at Chaminade.
