The start of Jacob Morin’s varsity career at Auburn High School in upstate New York couldn’t have gone much better.
The athletic midfielder earned a starting job as a freshman and helped the Maroons advance to the Section 3 Class A final.
After three more varsity seasons, Morin will move on to the major Division I level. Earlier this week, he decided where that will be, giving a verbal commitment to Army, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Morin is a two-way player who has a variety of dodge moves.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Jacob on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
I was really impressed with the family atmosphere, something I definitely look forward to being apart of.
Also the chance to get an outstanding education, play a high level of lacrosse, and get the opportunity to serve my country were additional determining factors for me.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was also considering Cornell. I visited Cornell and Fairfield.
Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
At this point, I am undecided.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would describe myself as a solid two-way midfielder that likes to dodge down the alley to create shots. I love moving the ball in t
ransition and getting teammates involved.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to continue to work on all areas of my game, but most importantly my footwork, and continuing to build a right hand.
Also just being a better student of the game, and keep building my lacrosse IQ.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My stepfather John played lacrosse in college and introduced me to lacrosse at the age of 4. He always encouraged me to play the game starting at a young age.
I have played hockey since a young age also and continue to play for Auburn High School.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Upstate Lacrosse Club (Ric Beardsley), we went to the Legacy Invitational and Philly Summer Invitational this summer. I also went to the All-Canada Games, and the NSCLA National Cup with the CNY Roadhawks.
Additionally, I participated in the Orange Crush College Showcase, the NSCLA Select Showcase.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
First, I want to thank my Club and High School head coaches Ric Beardsley and Matt Smith for everything that they have done for me.
I would also like to thank Coach Tarr and Coach Kaz.
All these coaches have invested in me, and have made me the player that I am today.
Lastly, I would like to thank my family for all the support that they have given me. Endless road trips and hours in the car, while pushing me to be the best that I can be.
