Almost as if on cue, the first day of varsity practice among public-school programs in New York State was met with temperatures that hit the 50-degree mark for the first time in the calendar year — in the New York City metro area at least.
The NY/NJ/CT tristate region is indeed well on its way to truly being the nation’s No. 1 hotspot for lacrosse once again. Literally.
But there was till snow to clear — and lots of it.
In the photos above, players from defending Class C state champ Bronxville take a blue-collar approach in doing just that.
About a quarter of the field was cleared by day’s end in Bronxville. Players plan to continue shoveling during free periods and before practice this week to try to clear it completely.
Another defending state champ, Yorktown (Class B), was indoors in the gymnasium as it officially started the 50th season in program history (photo below).
Some teams had the luxury of having practice in indoor facilities, like St. Anthony’s on Long Island and Pittsford in upstate New York (below).
