Jake Giaquinto has the power.
The junior at New York state power Ward Melville uses it in the faceoff X.
Combine it with his quick hands and you one of the top faceoff specialists on Long Island.
This past week, Giaquinto decided where he will take his faceoffs at the next level, verballing to Sacred Heart, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-9, 170-pound Giaquinto, a righty, is especially effective at starting unsettled situations.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Jake on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Sacred Heart has very good academics along with an always competitive lacrosse team.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was also considering Rutgers, Holy Cross, Amherst and Cortland.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are power and hand speed at the X. I try to get the ball out and push transition as much as possible.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I was introduced to lacrosse by one of my best friends, John Day (2016 Ward Melville West Point commit), in fourth grade. I have also played football.
What travel team do you play on and what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Patriot Elite and I played in the National 175 Best of the Best Showcase along with Island Uprising and various prospect camps.
Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you get to this point?
I would like to thank my parents for supporting me throughout this entire recruiting process, my high school coaches for continuously pushing me to get better and my faceoff instructor Santino Scalzo.
I also want to thank my high school coaches and JV coaches: Coach Negus, Coach Muscarella (Varsity Coaches) and Coach Ferraro (JV Coach).
