Much of the spotlight on Suffolk County (NY) lacrosse centers on power-laden Class A.
But Class B has also had no shortage of parity and talented teams.
Rocky Point unseated defending champion Miller Place to win Section 11 Class B title last spring.
Will there be yet another new champion in 2015?
One of the teams that hopes so is Harborfields.
The Tornadoes are coming off an 11-5 season, which started with six wins in the first eight games.
For a look at Harborfields, we turn to Connor Bennardo.
A dodging attackman, Bennardo is one of the best playmakers on Long Island. He will be playing his collegiate lacrosse at the University of Detroit-Mercy.
Now, here are Connor’s perspectives on the upcoming season.
What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
Personally, I’ve been rehabbing from a recent knee surgery that I had to get because of an injury during football. The team has been working very hard and I’m hoping to be back with them by game 1.
How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
The schedule this year is extremely competitive and I don’t think there’s one mediocre team in the whole league.
I think all the games are going to be competitive and exciting, but we always look forward to the Sayville game especially.
What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
I think we’ve got a good group of guys with a great work ethic and I think everyone’s hard work will pay off this season.
What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
Our offense should have a lot of firepower. We return a few middies and our whole attack line.
We’ve also got a strong defense led by three-year starter Jack Crowley, and a very talented goalie in Kyle Lumpe.
How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
The way, they realigned our league this year means that every team is very talented from top to bottom.
With that being said, I think we’re ready to make a run at it all this year, and I also think Miller Place and Rocky Point are pretty loaded, too.
