Stony Brook University and its head coach, Long Island native Jim Nagle, continue to stockpile talent from nearby varsity programs in Suffolk County.

The latest commitment, first reported when it was by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section, comes from Sachem East 2016 goaltender Michael Bollinger.

He is the fourth 2016 verbal for Nagle and the Seawolves.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Bollinger, a righty, has ideal size to go along with the ability to cut down shooters’ angles.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Michael on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Once I stepped on campus, I felt the immediate connection with Coach Nagle and the entire coaching staff,  I knew it was the perfect fit for me.

I know I will get a good education at Stony Book, as well as an amazing athletic experience. Being close to home was another major factor as well.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
St. John’s, Rutgers as well as Sacred Heart.

I visited all their campuses.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you consider your style of play?
My size, which is definitely an advantage when using my body. As well as good positioning and focusing on being explosive in the cage.

My style of play is playing a high arch and cutting down the angle of shooters.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to continue to work on speed and strength to keep up with the high level of lacrosse.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I started playing lacrosse in first grade, as a defenseman.  The challenge made me want to try the goalie position. I have been playing goalie since second grade.

I also played baseball and football.

Once I played lacrosse, I knew that was what I wanted to focus on.

What travel teams do you play and what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Sachem East all year round. We have a summer travel team as well as a school team.

I attended Blue Chip, First Look and I made the first round of the Suffolk/Nassau team.

I made the Philly Showcase All star game and the Super Sophs all-star game.

Any final thoughts?
I am so grateful to have the opportunity to play lacrosse at the college level.

I would like to thank my parents for always supporting me and being there to watch me play.

I would also like to thank my coaches through the years as well as my current high school coaches. Coach O’Connell for the endless conversations and support through this process, I could not have done it without you.
