Sachem North, a program that continues to churn out college commitments, recently picked up another one.

Rising senior two-way midfielder Mike Licata decided to stay on Long Island to play his college lacrosse, giving a verbal commitment to LIU Post, a decision first reported when it was made by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Licata, a righty, is a tough, athletic player who also excels in football at quarterback and safety. He will be the Flaming Arrows’ starting QB this fall.

“Mike is a multi-sport kid who we love to coach,” Sachem North coach Jason Mauro said. ‘He played an important role for us last year and had an excellent summer really developing into a team leader and a warrior for us.

“He will do a little bit of everything for us this coming spring; play offense, play defense, wing on faceoffs, face off and play man down. He never stops and is a great teammate.”

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Michael on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
How I fit in the school academically and the programs available for my intended major.

Also important were factors like student population, student/teacher ratio, and obviously athletics and the level of competition I will get at LIU Post.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Manhattan College, Assumption College, Pace University, the University of Massachussets Dartmouth and Clark University.  I visited all these schools as well.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My ability to be able to play midfield on both the offensive and defensive sides of the field.  I would describe my style of play as aggressive, quick, and bold.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I believe the biggest thing I need to work on in my game is being able to use my off/left hand a lot more.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
I got introduced to lacrosse by my dad and his friend who was one of the coaches for one of the little league lacrosse teams. I used to play baseball up until the second grade and I began to lose interest, so both of them just gave me a stick and told me to try it out, and I have loved the game ever since.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for my school in the summer, we have our own travel team and play against mostly other select and all star teams throughout the summer.  I have been to a few showcase events which include Blue Chip, the Long Island Showcase, Island Uprising and the Dan Daly Cup.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank all the people that have helped me through this process.

My coaches did an amazing job getting my name out there to get noticed and for persistently helping and guiding me through this difficult process.

I would also like to thank my great teammates for always supporting me and ultimately helping me get noticed by LIU by being great teammates on the field.

And lastly, I would like to show my appreciation to my parents and the rest of my family who have supported and pushed me in all my years of sports, I could of never done any of this with out their amazing support.
