St. Anthony’s Tampa-bound twinx Tyler Reynolds, left, and Thomas Reynolds.
The University of Tampa men’s lacrosse program will soon be seeing double.
That’s because the twin brother tandem of Tyler Reynolds, an attackman, and Thomas Reynolds, a defender, both committed to the University of Tampa, as first reported last week by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-7, 155-pound Tyler Reynolds is an effective finisher and dodger who is strong with either hand and dangerous from the X position.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Thomas Reynolds, a righty, is a strong position defender with good stick skills, footwork and clearing ability.
They are fraternal — not identical — twins.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Tyler and Thomas on their commitments.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Tyler: Out of all of the schools that I visited Tampa has all the things I wanted in a school by having great academics and a very strong lacrosse program. I also felt very comfortable with (Tampa Head) Coach (Rory) Whipple, (Assistant) Coach (Chris) Panos, (Assistant) Coach (Chris) Burdick and the team. I also fell in love with the campus and surrounding area.
Thomas: The coaching staff had a huge factor on my decision. Attending the prospect camp was a great experience. From the coaches to the players I could see that Tampa was a great program & a good fit for me.
The campus and academics also drew me to Tampa.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Tyler (pictured at right): I visited West Point, Drexel, Fairfield, Holy Cross and Bucknell. I strongly considered all of them.
Thomas: Holy Cross, High Point, and Richmond.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Tyler: I have a great lacrosse IQ, I can dodge as well as finish.
Thomas: I play very good positional defense. My biggest strengths are my lacrosse IQ and my footwork.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
Tyler: The area of my game that I am working to improve is my outside shooting.
Thomas: I need to work on my left hand and speed.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
Tyler: I started playing when I was 5. I was introduced to the game by my dad who also coached me throughout my childhood. I also played tennis, football and baseball growing up.
Thomas (pictured at left): I got introduced to lacrosse when I was 5. My dad played so he coached me throughout my childhood. I have played football and baseball.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
Tyler: I play for the Long Island Express. I participated in the Prep School Showcase, Adrenaline Platinum Cup and the National Invite 175.
Thomas: I play for the Long Island Express. I attended National Invite 175, Prep School Showcase and the Platinum Cup.
Any final thoughts?
Tyler: First, I would like to thank my parents for supporting me in everything I do. They have traveled around the country and given sp much of their time to help me enjoy the sport I love. I would also like to thank my siblings Maggie, Kyle and Ryan (15) and my twin brother Thomas who support me daily.
Thomas: I would like to thank my parents and family. My parents have been so supportive of me in everything I do. I would also like to thank (Long Island Express) Coach Mike Chanenchuck. He is a great coach and was very helpful in the recruiting process.
I would also like to thank Coach Mike Chanenchuk, not only was he a great coach but also helped me through the recruiting process. Also Coach Doug Schreiber who I have trained with over the years and has helped me develop my game.
