Do you remember the 2010 NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse championship game?
David Morales, who was in the eighth grade then, sure does.
“My first experience was watching that game on TV,” the rising senior defender/longstick midfielder at Patchogue-Medford High School in Suffolk County (NY) said. “From then on, I was hooked. I decided to try out the next year and I fell in love with the game.”
Perhaps it’s appropriate that a longstick player was the star of that game as CJ Costabile of New Fairfield (CT) scored after winning the opening faceoff of overtime to give Duke a 6-5 win over Notre Dame.
Soon, Morales will be following Costabile’s path to college lacrosse.
Morales verballed committed to Division II Post University in Waterbury (CT) earlier this week, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Morales,a righty, has ideal size to go along with very good speed and a high lacrosse IQ. He is also aggressive on groundballs.
Morales played with Raider Elite Lacrosse, which is Pat-Med’s travel team. He participated in the Long Island Lax Fest, LI Pride Fest, Warrior Summer Sizzle and Hofstra Long Island Lacrosse Classic. He also played in the Iisland Uprising, SJ Red Storm, Under Armour Long Island tryouts and National 175 showcases.
Now, here’s a Q&A with David on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
The location of the school is perfect because I can get the college experience while only being an hour and a half away from home.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Dowling, NYIT, Dominican and Notre Dame de Namur. I visited Dowling, Post and Stony Brook.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
Improving my strength, speed and stick skills.
What other sports have you played?
I have played soccer and basketball.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I played with Raider Elite Lacrosse, which is our school travel team. I participated in LI Lax Fest, LI Pride Fest, Warrior Summer Sizzle and Hofstra Long Island Classic.
The showcases i participated in were Island Uprising, St. John’s Red Storm Showcase, Under Armour LI tryouts and National 175.
Any final thoughts?
First off, i want to thank my amazing and loving parents for all they have done for me. Without them, I would be nowhere.
Next, I would like to thank my coaches Frank Padolechhia, Chris Sheifer, Coach Wayne and Coach Lauria for teaching me all I now know and for developing me into a great player.
Finally, I would like to thank all my friends and teammates who helped push me to be the best.
