Hofstra University’s men’s lacrosse program has enjoyed in a productive summer in terms of keeping Long Island standouts close to home.
Particularly when it comes to Class of 2016 players.
The latest verbal came last week from from Wantagh High School rising junior midfielder Kyle Sliwak, whose commitment was first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-9, 175-pound Sliwak was an impact player for the Wantagh varsity team this past spring as a sophomore and was an all-star at the Blue and Gold Hofstra Tournament at Hofstra in 2013 and competed at Maverik Showtime this past summer.
Sliwak, a righty who played travel lacrosse for Team91 2016 Orange, is the second Wantagh rising junior to commit to Hofstra, joining goaltender Bobby Casey.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Kyle on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
The lacrosse program/coaching staff, I didn’t want to go too far from home, the Communications program and the sense of familiarity.
My speed and endurance, athletic abilities, lacrosse IQ, 30 to 30.
My stick skill level and my finish.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I got introduced to lacrosse when I was in third grade and joined my first PAL team.
The other sports I have played are Varsity football and JV basketball
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Team91 2016 Orange. I was selected for Maverick, Blue Chip 225, the Nassau/Suffolk game and Jake Reed.
Any final thoughts?
I want to thank my coaches from Team91, they have made me the player that I am, my teammates for four years of unforgettable experiences and my mom for being my biggest fan and toughest critic who provided all these amazing opportunities.
