Dylan DeMuro, a defender/longstick midfielder for Archbishop Stepinac High School (NY), will stay close to home and play his college lacrosse at Manhattan College, a decision first reported when it was made in early June by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound DeMuro, a righty, is an athletic player with good speed and agility.

Simply stated, he’s the type of defender offensive players dread going up against.

“I like to make the player I guard feel uncomfortable,” DeMuro said.

DeMuro also plays basketball and football for Stepinac.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Dylan on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Manhattan is close to home and that was very important in my decision. Academically, I’d like to pursue as a business major and I love the campus. After I had met with (Manhattan Head) Coach (Steve) Manitta I knew that it would be the right fit for me.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Rutgers, Sacred Heart and Siena.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are my athleticism, clearing and on-ball defense. I would describe my style of play as aggressive.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to get more comfortable with my off hand.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
My older brother Frankie had played lacrosse for Shrub Oak and went on to play at Lakeland. He introduced me and I fell in love with the game right away.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Team Superstar 2015 AA. I attended Fab Frosh and National Invitational 175.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my family for everything they’ve done for me, my teammates at Stepinac who pushed me at practice everyday, my coaches from Stepinac — James Goldman, Tom Kelly and James Synowiez — my coaches from Shrub Oak, my father Frank DeMuro, Peter Prunty and Bob Zingaro.

I’m excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to be a Jasper.
