West Islip (Class A), Manhasset (Class B), Cold Spring Harbor (Class C) win Long Island girls titles

A goal by Kate Kotowski with 11 seconds remianing in the first overtime gave Nassau County champion Cold Spring Harbor a 13-12 win over Bayport-Blue Point in the Long Island Class C championship game Sunday at Dowling College. CSH will play Bronxville (Section 1) in the New York state semifinals on Friday at SUNY Cortland.
Nassau champion Manhasset coasted to a 16-6 win over Suffolk champion Sayville to win the LIC Class B girls title. Julia Glynn had three goals and four assists for ‘Set, which faces the Section 2 (Albany area) champion on Friday at SUNY Cortland.
West Islip’s boys lacrosse program has been a perennial Suffolk County and Long Island champion. On Sunday, the WI girls team got in on the title-winning act. West Islip defeated Nassau County champion Farmingdale 12-8 to take the Class A Long Island championship. It was the first-ever LIC crown for WI (20-0). Lena Riportella led the way for the Lions with five goals. WI advances to Friday’s state semifinals against Suffern (Section 1).
