You’d have a hard time find a sport Curtis Alexander doesn’t like

And just as hard a time finding one he’s not good at.

There’s ski racing, squash, football and soccer.

There’s also lacrosse.

That’s the sport the transfer from Cape Elizabeth High School in Maine, now a sophomore at Deerfield Academy (Mass.), will be playing at the next level. He’ll be playing it at the University of Michigan.

Alexander’s verbal, first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section, comes after he drew heavy recruiting interest from some of the nation’s top programs.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Alexander is a lefty with tremendous size and stick skills who plays with an aggressive style.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Curtis on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I really liked the feel of the campus, the coaching staff, and the players I met on the team were all good guys. Michigan is heavily recruiting and bringing in top players from all across the country.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was also strongly considering Harvard and UNC. I visited Harvard, Michigan, UNC and Princeton, and was talking to other schools in the Ivy and other leagues.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would say my greatest strength is stick skills and ball control. On the field I like to lead the defense and am very passionate and try and play aggressive.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
When I am going one-on-one, I tend to rely too much with my stick checks and forget to play the body.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
I was introduced to lacrosse when I was very young because it is big in my hometown Cape Elizabeth and there is a large youth program. I started playing competitively when I was in second grade.

My older brother played and my dad did some coaching in the youth program, so I naturally looked up to my older brother and followed in his footsteps and found myself playing as well.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in? I play for the Long Island Sting coached by Ken Miller, which I got onto the team through the Deerfield lacrosse coach Chip Davis.

This past summer, I played in five tournaments and showcases. I played in MVP, Under Armour Shootout, Legacy, Top 205 rising sophomores, Hot Beds and UNC Team Camp.

Any final thoughts?
I would also like to thank my Cape Elizabeth High School coach Ben Raymond for coaching my first two years of high school lacrosse along with helping me with my recruiting process. My parents as well and my summer coach Ken Miller were all huge helps as well.
