When it comes to his own family, Lucas Quinn is part of the crowd.
After all, both his older brothers play Division I college lacrosse at the University of Hartford, where his oldest brother, John, is a senior defender and middle brother, Evan, is a freshman goaltender.
The Quinns’ father played lacrosse at Whitesboro (N.Y.) High School.
But when it comes to Syracuse University’s Class of 2017 commits, Lucas Quinn stands alone.
Quinn became Syracuse’s first 2017 commit when he verballed to the Orange last week, as reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 5-foot-8, 180-pound Quinn is an athletic and hard-nosed righty who uses his quickness, field vision and skills to make plays.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Lucas on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
Playing for such a historic lacrosse program, playing for a team I’ve been watching since I was little and I felt very comfortable around the coaches and on campus.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
North Carolina, Penn State, Ohio State, Delaware and Princeton. I visited North Carolina, Penn State and Delaware.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Paying with both hands and the ability to make looks.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
Being a better defender.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
My dad has always played and he got my older brothers into it, so I picked up a stick around second grade and started playing.
What other sports have you played?
I played football up until two years ago.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Albany Power. I attended Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip this past fall and will be attending Maverick Showtime this summer.
Any final thoughts?
I’d like to thank my parents, my older brothers, my coaches and anyone else that has helped me along the way.
