Ridgefield’s boys lacrosse program has progressed to the point where it reloads — and doesn’t rebuild — despite playing in one of the nation’s top conferences, the FCIAC.

Expect that to be the case once again this spring.

For more, we check in with one of the most hard-nosed and versatile midfielders in Connecticut, RHS senior Micky Carbone.

Carbone, who is headed to Providence College, is a physical and aggressive two-way player.

Now, here are Micky’s perspectives on the upcoming season.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
Our team is building momentum during our preseason training. Everyday guys are either shooting, hitting the wall, lifting, or running to prepare themselves for the 2014 season.

We are fortunate enough to be able to participate in the Chelsea Piers Winter League where every Sunday we get to play competitive lacrosse gearing us up for opening day. Preseason is an exciting time and everyone is working hard.

How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
We are very excited to be able to host some big rivalry matchups this year. Being able to play Greenwich, Wilton, Yorktown,and Darien on Tiger Hollow is a big advantage for us.

We are really happy that we have made the addition of Garden City this year in the Battle of the Sound. Summit (N.J.) is always a great game for us as well, and going back to John Jay in such a great environment will be very competitive.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
Some of our main weapons that are back this year are Will Bonaparte, Dylan Maher, Simon Mathias and Ryan Dunn. With graduation losses, guys like Nick Esemplare, Dan Ohrem, Jonathan Curran, Brad Alexander and Peter Dearth that are going to see a lot of time on the field.

On defense, we have Kean Quick, Paul Volante and Brian Maguire with Sam Boehle returning as an LSM.

We also have two very talented goalies that will be battling it out for the starting spot.

There is a lot more young talent coming in which is always very exciting for the program.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
I think our motivation is the strength of this 2014 Tiger team. After losing in both the conference and state semis last year, we feel as though we as a team have something to prove.

This year we want to get back into the prime-time games and finish. Everybody has the same mindset and same goals for the year, which is powerful.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
The FCIAC is a very talented league. Every team on opening day has the ability to run the table and win the championship.

This year it should be very similar, you can look for great teams out of Darien, New Canaan, Wilton, Greenwich, and Staples. It’s a long hard road to the title, which makes it such a fun league to be a part of.
