A combination of size and stick skills are two of the most ideal attributes Division I coaches crave in a defenseman.

Put checks in both columns for Nick Biasi.

The Class of 2015 Bethpage High School (N.Y.) standout checks in at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds. A natural righty, he is equally strong with either hand.

So it should come as no surprise that Biasi is indeed Division I bound. Last week, he verbally committed to St. John’s University, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Nick on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I love the location of St. John’s. I tend to love the city-type environment. Besides the fact that it is a great lacrosse program, St. John’s also offers so much academically. In addition, the coaching staff is fantastic and it feels like the right fit for me.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Hartford and UPenn.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My No. 1 strength is my stick skills, I practice very hard at that, and I am very good at clearing the ball. I’m also a very verbal defenseman, and try my best to make sure my defense is in sync together.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
Sometimes I need to explode faster to a ball, in which I do many different types of drills to try and perfect that. I make sure I do at least one thing, whether it be a speed drill or conditioning, to better myself everyday.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I started playing lacrosse in sixth grade, after my friend asked me to have a catch one day, and encouraged me to give it a shot. Since around the same age I also played basketball, and still do.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the Long Island Express travel team. This past summer we attended two big tournaments, the Tri-State tournament and King of the Hill in Maryland. This fall I attended the National Invitational 175, the Philly Showcase and the MVP showcase.

Any final thoughts?
First off, I would like to thank God for this opportunity. I also am thankful for my parents being by my side through many years of lacrosse, traveling out of state every weekend and standing on the fields in all kinds of weather. I am so grateful for their love and support and everything they have done for me.

I have to thank coach and director of the Long Island Express, Mike Chanenchuk. I am grateful for all his support through the recruiting process, and I have to say he is a coach who really cares for his players.

A big thank you also goes out to my summer travel Express coaches, Coach (Kevin) Adler and Coach (Doug) Schreiber.
