If you’ve been following along here, you know that Air Force has made its mark on the tristate recruiting scene.
Now, the Falcons have just landed their first Class of 2016 verbal from the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lacrosse.
He’s defenseman Kevin Reichardt of Kings Park High School (N.Y.), whose verbal made earlier this week was first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Reichardt is a three-sport standout for Kings Park.
Reichardt’s older sister, Amanda, a 2012 KPHS grad, is a goaltender on SUNY Oneonta’s women’s team.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Kevin on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
The U.S. Air Force Academy will give me a fantastic education. I like the idea of a structured environment, as well a serious athletic program.
Right now, I intend to major in Engineering as well as Criminal Justice.
Also, I believe that an academy education will open many doors in the future as well as many experiences that would be hard to come by in civilian life.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I have been considering the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy at Annapolis, the University of Maryland and Lehigh University.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths as a player is knowing that no game is over till the final whistle blows. I have strong communication skills between my fellow teammates as well as an aggressive style of play.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I can always improve all areas of my playing.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My sister, who introduced me to the game, and I spent many of afternoons in the yard or at the local school field playing and working together.
Other sports that I play are football and basketball. For football, I was pulled up as a sophomore to varsity.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the Long Island Outlaws, and have attending many of showcases over the years, including Battle of Hotbeds at the University of Delaware and the Greene Turtle Invitational Showcase in Maryland.
Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my whole family for everything they had done. I would especially like to thank by parents for supporting me the whole time and always having my back in everything that I wanted to do. I like to also thank my coaches, Marcelo Sandoval, Pat Brennan and Mark O’Brien for making me a better player and improving my skills both on and off the field.
