Tyler Amodio is focused on soccer right now, and for good reason.

The senior is a defenseman on the two-time defending New York state champion Jericho High School boys team that plays South Side on Wednesday, Nov. 6 in the Nassau County championship game at Adelphi University.

His college future, however, is in lacrosse. The longstick midfielder has committed to play at Connecticut College, a verbal first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-7, 165-pound Amodio is a speedy, athletic and agile LSM out of the mold of another Jericho standout, Chandler Kirby. Kirby, who is also 5-7, is a freshman LSM at Cornell.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Tyler on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Connecticut College is not only a Nationally ranked lacrosse program, but it is also one of the finest liberal arts schools in the country. When I took my visit, I instantly fell in love with the school. Coaches (Dave) Cornell and (Vince) Redko were very welcoming and I knew that Conn was the right choice for me.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Richmond University and Tufts University. I visited Boston University and Williams College

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Speed and agility. Though I am not the tallest player on the field, my knowledge of the game really aids to my advantage. I try to carry the ball up the field as much as possible to aid to the attack.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I am always trying to get bigger and stronger. I believe that I need to work more on my man to man defense.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
When I was in elementary school I started to play with the help from Jim Corcoran and Evan Bower, but I only played as a hobby. Then when I entered high school my view on lacrosse changed and I knew I wanted to play in college.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I’ve played for both the Long Island Checkmate Sharks and the Long Island Jesters. I attended the Under Armour All-America Tryouts, Good to Great, National Invite 175 and Hotbeds.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to give a big thanks to my family. My mom and dad have been my biggest supporter over the years; attending all of my tournaments and showcases, no matter where the showcases were.

Another big thanks I would like to give would be to Chandler Kirby. He showed me that size doesn’t matter in this game and always pushed me to work harder and harder each day. I always aspire to play like him.

Lastly, I would like to thank Coach Gordon Purdie for everything he has done for me over the past summers. He is the reason why I ever considered playing college lacrosse. Most of my confidence in this game is because of his encouragement. Thank you, Coach.
