Kevin Fuchs is now Binghamton-bound.

But unlike the recent wave of Long Island standouts committed to joining the Bearcats, BU was not the  Hewlett High School star’s initial planned destination.

The athletic midfielder had been planning on following the collegiate path of another former Hewlett standout, Max Seibald, by committing to the admission process at Cornell University almost a full year ago.

But Fuchs informed Joe Lombardi on Tuesday night that he has had a change of direction, a decision first reported on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider special coverage section.

Binghamton’s Class of 2014 now includes Fuchs as well as fellow Long Islanders Joe Grossi (Lynbrook), midfield; Ben Kocis (Huntington), midfield; Thomas McAndrew (MacArthur), attack; Kyle Nawrocki (Hauppauge), defense and Eric Schweitzer (Babylon), defense.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Kevin on his decision.

When did you decide to decommit from Cornell and why?
I decommitted at the end of the summer. Although Ithaca is an amazing place to be, and the reputation Cornell has is second to none, I didn’t feel as if it was the right place for me. I had other options such as PGing, but when the opportunity presented itself to attend Binghamton, it was a no-brainer this time.

What other colleges, in addition to Binghamton, were you looking at?
After my decommitment, I was looking at a bunch of schools. I was able to narrow it down to Tufts, Boston University, and Binghamton.

When did you visit Binghamton and how did that go?
Before I committed to Cornell, I visited Binghamton. When things didn’t work out with Cornell, I was lucky enough to have gotten in touch with (Binghamton Head) Coach (Scott) Nelson and everything fell into place.

Binghamton has been bringing in a lot of Long Island commits the last few months. What are your thoughts on that?
I am extremely excited to play with a bunch of Long Island guys. We all know each other and have played against and with each other all our lives. It should be amazing all playing together at the next level.
