It’s SAT Saturday. When players from throughout the region are done with that test, they will face plenty of other late this afternoon and evening.

Here’s a look at some of the big games on tap.

Be sure to check back throughout the day for score updates, and add scores/info/thoughts of your own.

Score updates

We’ve found in previous weeks that many readers look for score updates in the comments portion of our scoreboard threads, rather than the main body you are reading now. So, beginning today, we will do precisely that. So check the comments for updates.

We will then decide how to proceed in the future based on what occurs today. So be sure to weigh in with reports on games you are at with your comments.

At the end of the evening, we will post all the finals previously posted as comments throughout the day right here in the main body for your convenience.

Here’s our first update of the day, gang:
The Somers at Iona Prep game, which had been scheduled to start at 3 p.m., has been moved up to a 2:30 p.m. start.

  3. Cards Lax says:

    Joe,
    Who coaches Pleasantville these days?

Greenwich has Wilton and Darien this week. A lot should be settled in FCIAC after this week as far as seeding goes…

  4. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers leads Iona Prep 4-3 with 1:48 to go in the first quarter. Iona has rallied after trailing 3-0 and 4-1.

  5. Joe Lombardi says:

    Cards Lax –
Pville’s first-year coach is Bruce Reitenbach.

  6. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers leads 4-3 after one. Greg Petre has three goals for the Tuskers. Kieran Donohue has the other goal. JoJo Marasco, who is being defended by Chris Jackson, has two assists. Myles Gillespie has two goals for Iona. Pete DeSalvo, who has verbally committed to Fairfield, has the other goal for the Gaels. Chris Longo made five saves for Somers.

  7. Joe Lombardi says:

We’ve got a good one here at Iona Prep. IP tied it as the buzzer sounded to end the half as Nick Trizano scored from the doorstep. Gillespie had scored his third goal moments earlier to pull IP within 6-5. JoJo Marasco, who is being shut off by Chris Jackson, has no goals and two assists. Petre now has four goals. Donohue and Colin Tullgren have the other goals for Somers. Longo now has 12 saves. Kevin Kaiser has five saves for IP.

  8. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers leads 10-9 after three quarters. After IP when ahead 8-6 on back-to-back goals by Gillespie and Trizano, Erik Pfiffner and goal Partenza scored for Somers to tie it at 8-8. Somers then went ahead 9-8 when Petre scored off a feed from Marasco with 4:48 left in the quarter. Gillespie then tied it at 9-9 with his fifth goal of the game before Donohue scored off a rebound with 2:02 left in the quarter.

  9. Joe Lombardi says:

    Somers wins 13-12.

  10. Joe Lombardi says:

Petre equals career high with six goals. Marasco held to no goals but has six assists. Trizano and Gillespie each have five goals. Longo makes 23 saves. Kaiser 12.

  11. Joe Lombardi says:

Petre snaps 11-11 tie with 5:27 remaining off nice feed from JoJo. Somers then went up 13-11 before Trizano scored with two seconds left.

  16. today says:

greeley-bh was another really good one today–whole 2nd half was 1 goal margin, back and forth, very evenly matched, some big saves, good win for HG, tough one for BH

    YORKTOWN-LAKELAND/PANAS UPDATES:

UPDATE 1: Town up 3-0 early in first quarter. Mabus and Interlicchio score second and third goals inside the four-minute mark of first quarter.

UPDATE 2: Honovich scores unassisted for L/P. It’s 3-1 Town.

UPDATE 3: 3-2 Yorktown with 7 left in first. This may be a shootout.

    UPDATE 4: L/P’s Honovich from Fitzpatrick at 5:54. It’s 3-3.

UPDATE 5: Ranagan unassisted off roll dodge from 10 yards out at 9:56. Under 1 minute to play in quarter and it’s 4-3 Town. Timeout, L/P ball.

    UPDATE 6: Town up 4-3 after 1.

  18. syracuse says:

UPDATE 7: Ranagan from Casey on man-up at 2:44. Yorktown up 5-3.

  19. syracuse says:

UPDATE 8: KI scores third at 3:43 of 2nd and it’s 6-3 Yorktown.

  20. syracuse says:

UPDATE 9: Ranagan unassisted off nifty clear. The Town middie made a few quick moves inside the box and moved in all alone. So Ranagan has 3, Interlicchio has 3 and Yorktown leads 7-3 with 6 and change left in second quarter.

  21. syracuse says:

UPDATE 10: Town up 7-3 at the half. Town owned the ball in the second quarter. L/P has no answer for Ranagan.

  22. Syracuse says:

UPDATE 11: L/P gets to within 7-4 on goal by James Bugeya, assisted by Jack Doherty early in 3rd.

  23. Syracuse says:

  24. Syracuse says:

  25. Syracuse says:

    UPDATE 14: Yorktown leads 9-5.

  26. Syracuse says:

    UPDATE 15: Yorktown 10, L/P 5

  27. Syracuse says:

    UPDATE 16: Yorktown 10, L/P 5 after 3

  28. syracuse says:

UPDATE 17: Fitzpatrick pulls L/P to within 10-6 with 9 to play in 4th

  29. syracuse says:

UPDATE 18: Conor Prunty scores man-up with 6:30 to play making it 10-7 Town.

  30. syracuse says:

UPDATE 18: Monteferante makes it 10-8 Town. Yorktown appears totally confused. Lots of penalties. L/P taking advantage.

  31. syracuse says:

UPDATE 20: Timeout Town with ball up 10-8, 4 and change to play.

  32. syracuse says:

UPDATE 21: Ranagan ends run with 5th of the game, assisted by KI. It’s 11-8 Yorktown with 2:15 to play.

  33. Brian says:

Do those boys from Ridgefield ever get tired? I have seen them play now 3 times and they are just in rediculous shape!! They run like deer!! Roy must train the hell out of them in the off season!!

  34. syracuse says:

FINAL: Yorktown 11, L/P 8. Ranagan finishes 5, 1, Interlicchio has 4. Yorktown took about a million mindless penalties in the fourth quarter and, though never really in danger of losing, made the game a lot closer than it should have been. Credit L/P for playing a tough, spirited game as usual. The Rebels have plenty of skilled players that if given opportunities will fill the net. Yorktown shouldn’t be too keyed up by this win because they clearly did not play their best game. Keep in mind, Guilderland, a likely Yorktown opponent in June, beat L/P 15-10 last week. Joe will almost certainly be back later with a full recap of this game. Later — ‘CUSE

  35. freelaxer says:

    Nisky- 5
    Jay- 2

Overall good performance by Jay. Nisky coach said that it was his best team in 10 years so a great job by Jay holding them to 5 goals. Jay missed about 3-4 shots that could have easily gone in, great goaltending by Niskyuna.

  36. BigBadBear says:

did Marr get kicked out? any details?

  37. syracuse says:

I know any win over L/P is a good win for Yorktown, but the Huskers were sloppy tonight and Dave Marr was ejected from the Murphy Cup game for the second time in three years. They need to have something bring this season all together and soon. …

  38. Observer says:

Please tell me the Sav’s didn’t play stall ball again!

  39. syracuse says:

    Guys,

Lots of scores added to body of this post. Nothing shocking, though I find Chaminade 5, St. John Baptist 3; PV 7, Hen Hud 6 and Nisky 5, JJ 2 very interesting to say the least …

    ‘CUSE

  40. solidD says:

    observer-
surprisingly no! they didnt stall at all. It was just a great defensive performance by both teams. I was impressed with jj’s defense, a nice rebound game after PV. JJ didnt stall and often took it to the cage, the Nisky defense and goalie were just a very tough task for the jj offense to handle. Overall a good game for jj, and if they play like that next week they have a good shot at Syosset!

  41. Townie says:

Just got back from the game. Not sure how they do this every year but this time I have to give LP credit. At the same time when you are up 4 with eight minutes to go you don’t get two bench misconducts arguing over a trivial call. You just don’t. This has to stop. Its gotten so old.

  42. GreenWhite says:

Yeah Town! Way to step up in your last Cup game Ran, Fenn and all the seniors. Good game Lakeland. You guys ways leave it on the field. I agree the Town coaches have to relax. I mean seriously.

  43. Doid23 says:

This year is just unrateable. Throw out all past results, every game stands on it’s own. Just can’t figure out teams results from week to week, or game to game for that matter. I’ve never been a fan of doing the they beat them, then they beat them, and so they should beat them, etc. game, but it used to at least give some indication. Case in point: Nisky 15 – 2 over Guilderland, Guilderland 15-10 over L/P, L/P 13-12 over Jay, Nisky 5-2 over Jay. Rye? We were counting them out not more than a week ago.
Who’s going to win Sect 1 B? Who the h*ll knows. C? Same. Even A, which should be a lock, I wouldn’t bet the farm on. Pretty cool, actually, although it doesn’t look good for the states.

  44. Fred says:

Nisky was apparently without their faceoff guy and used a backup. 14 is their usual guy from films but 24 took most, and JJ won a very high % of faces but Nisky defense up top and inside was very strong and very fast. Surprised by Nisky low score but with lack of winning at x, this is main reason…no possession, no scoring I guess…Very nice rebound for JJ even in the loss. Love to watch these two go at it each year…what happened at the end of the game with the flags? Anyone know?

  45. freelaxer says:

    Fred-
Apparently the Nisky coach got a flag for yelling at the refs, and to my understanding is out for the next game. Faceoff was a big help for Jay, but Nisky still had much more time of possession than Jay did.

  46. slacrosse says:

    Good play by LP.

Would have been more concerned for Town’s small win margin except following Cuse’s comment that the margin would have been greater but for unnecessary penalties by Town/Coach and generally better play by Town.

Town’s games against the best opponents coming up are going to be tough enough. Whether you agree or not with the calls Coach HAS to avoid making it even harder on the team by getting thrown out. It never changes the calls, MIGHT cause an unconscious bias against Town but ALWAYS will make it harder on the kids.

All coaches fight for their kids and argue with the refs about bad calls. I hope this never happens but will be interesting to see how the “protection” argument holds up if this should cause Town to lose a game!!

  47. slacrosse says:

    PV/HH.

Good effort by HH but was disappointed and surprised in PV’s goal margin of only 1.

  48. fan says:

I believe the goal margin of 1 was the result of Hen Hud playing a very good game. How about giving them a little credit.

  49. slacrosse says:

    fan,

I did say “good effort” by HH (wasn’t at the game so had no details to work with).

But PV has to live with its high rankings and expectations of how they should perform vs other teams.

Yes as PV is presently ranked as a top team in Section 1 then HH should be congratulated on this effort and continued good performances rest of season.

  50. Dee-up says:

I caught the P V game If you folks have not seen Bob Sincero H H goalie as a Jr your missing something the kid is a stud , that is the reason PV only hit 7. Both goalie’s played great a game. These two goalies will be the big names mentioned next year if they continue the course.

  51. section1fan says:

the goal margin of one was do the fact of hen hud’s d and sincero making acrobatic saves, and the play of colin parkhurst through the midfield. I’ve seen him play a few times and the kid was running through the pv d, they were locking him off towards the end of the game, i think he had like 2 goals and 2 or three assists, but he was really making the pv d work

  52. triangle topsting says:

marr is out of control, to get kicked out? i mean you have to get technicals b4 your kicked out, and he was even screaming about a call in the hen hud game and he barely had his full lineup in. I understand the murphy cup is a big deal but some class and self control need to be displayed.

  53. sec1 says:

Triangle what diff does it make if the starters are in or not? I know you must know this but some penalty’s have to do with the players getting hurt.. If you think he was complaining because he wanted his Team to have and advantage you must be dreaming, why do you think he played everyone of his players and its a good thing because that game would have set back the Hen Hud progam a decade if he did not. Also Coach Marr never runs up the score, and man could he have many times.

  54. Told U says:

I spoke about Sincero earlier, he is the real deal!! Maybe the 3rd best, goalie in the section if not better!! Will be something special in college with people in front of him.

  55. triangle topsting says:

the point about the starters is that it shows that he knew he was better than a that hen hud program, why is he giving the reff such a hard time, it was 9-0 at half. It’s not like this is a new thing either he has a history of this, and a coach at that level should have some self control by now.

I don’t know if your just stating it or responding to some one, but i agree that coach marr is pretty good about not running up the score.

  56. triangle topsting says:

    correction*

“better than that Hen Hud program”

  57. let"s wait and see says:

I was at the HH-PV game the goalies for both teams were very good(Sincero-HH) & (Mccrudden-PV) but before we make them all-section let them finish there Jr. year and see how they preform in sectionals and summer travel. I think
they are both playing there first full year on varsity

  58. Davids31 says:

Excellenet coverage guys. Keep up the great work.

  59. dee-up says:

First- let’s wait & see, I will cut and paste a line i wrote so you can read it again

“These two goalies will be the big names mentioned next year if they continue the course”. You will notice how I put next year if they continue to impress. told you so , also made reference to his play in the future. So a couple of bloggers give a couple of young man some credit for the hard work and effort they put in and you feel the need to belittle. Hey they are both having a good years and are solid players. What differnece is it that it is their first second or third year. So your point is mute. Let the kids that have nice games get the credit they deserve. Please take your negativity elsewhere

Section1 fan – I have seen Colin play before and yes good player and not many lefties around . So for that matter the Pv had some standouts # 9 and a whole lot of depth at that middie line. Thats probally why they are up there , there is really no drop off on the line changes. Staturday was a good day for the gams in Sect 1

  60. henhudlax says:

For the record, collin parkhurst is a righty…and also i think sincero is a step above the pv goalie. He is more athletic, has better stick skills, and throws better outlets.

  61. laxilla99 says:

    Henhudlax

Obviously you haven’t seen enough of the PV goalie to make that statement when it came down to game winning saves the 4th quarter it was the PV goalie that came through as for athleticism the PV goalie is still nursing an injury and did just as good a job clearing the ball. I’ll give you the HH goalie looked more flashy though not better and I’ve seen them both play numerous times

  62. HH says:

Sincero is the best goalie in the section by far, puts haggarty and mike b to shame.

  63. LoveTownLax says:

HH – puts them to shame? a bit of a exaggeration. record? opponents?

  64. paclax says:

you honestly think that he is better then jonny mcguigan(pac) and chris longo(somers) ?!
