Greenwich High School (Conn.) coach Scott Bulkley says Cole Perry is one of the top longstick midfielders in Connecticut.

But Perry brings more to the Cardinals than that. He’s also a team leader on and off the field who will be a team captain in 2014.

Those are the attributes that made Perry is coveted recrui.

Last week, he decided on Denison University, a commitment that was first reported when it was made by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s “Lacrosse Insider” section.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Perry, a righty, has ideal size for his position and the speed to go with it. An aggressive player with good field vision, excels in triggering transition opportunities.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Cole on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Denison just felt right. I like the size of the school and the academics are great. I also really look forward to playing for (Denison Head) Coach (Mike) Caravana. He is really respected in the lacrosse world and his upfront and honest style was a big factor in choosing Denison.

After spending some time with Coach Caravana I had little doubt. Denison also has a long lacrosse tradition with some great rivalries.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Middlebury, Bryant, Colgate, Gettysburg and Richmond.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My biggest strength as a player is the transition game.  I love to the push the ball from defense to offense and play fast and aggressive. I also think I have good overall field vision and can anticipate where the play may go.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
This off season I will be working on my strength and footwork to help me play an aggressive game next year.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I have been playing lacrosse since I was 5.  My dad (Jim Perry), who played at Greenwich High School as well (then went on to play at Colgate) was my first coach. I played football and water polo.  I enjoy skiing very much as well.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I have played on CT Chargers and am currently playing for CP Lax. In the past I have attended Jake Reed Fall tournaments,  National 175, Maverick Showtime and Blue Chip 225.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my high school coach Scott Bulkley.  He took a chance on me as a freshman half way through the season to play varsity and it really made a difference in my game and created some opportunities for me.

My youth lacrosse coaches at Greenwich Youth Lacrosse were also great influences; Coach Coleman, Coach Roth, Coach Miller, Coach Finneran and Coach Flippin.  They invest a lot of their free time for all the kids in Greenwich.

Finally, I would like to thank all my teammates form GYL, Chargers,CP-LAX and Greenwich High.  I have been playing with some of these guys since I was 6 and its been great.
