Micky Carbone’s importance to Connecticut power Ridgefield High School’s lacrosse team was evident right from the start of this past season.

The junior midfielder scored three goals in the Tigers’ 10-5 win at Greenwich on April 3. He went on to finish the season with 13 goals and seven assists as Ridgefield finished 17-4.

Carbone’s junior season did not go unnoticed by many Division I programs.

Late last week, he gave a verbal commitment to attend Providence College, as reported at Twitter.com/Joe_Lombardi.

The Tigers now has  have three Class of 2014 commits, including midfielder Will Bonaparte (Maryland) and attackman/midfielder Dylan Maher (Dickinson College).

Carbone, who is also a football and skiing standout, is a physical and aggressive two-way midfielder who is effective at shooting on the run and who has a strong lacrosse IQ.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Micky on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
(Head) Coach (Chris) Gabrielli and the rest of the coaching staff at Providence were amazing through the entire process and I loved the way Providence College has committed to its lacrosse program with the addition of a new stadium, locker room and weight room.

It is a program on the rise and I feel that I can make an immediate impact. The school itself is also committed to improvements throughout the school that made it attractive and the accredited business school was also a very big reason why I chose Providence.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited and considered St. Joseph’s University, Bryant University, Lafayette College, the University of Vermont and Holy Cross.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I pride myself in being a two-way physical midfielder who can play strong defense, push transition and create unsettled situations for the offense. I have a strong shot on the run, and I’m a very aggressive and physical player between the lines. I also feel that I have a very strong lacrosse IQ that enables me to read situations both on offense and defense.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I’m always working on fundamentals, stick skills with my weak hand and dodging.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My dad introduced me to the game when I was in second grade and I’ve been playing ever since. He has been by my side through the years as a mentor and a coach and has been my inspiration. I am also the captain of both the football team and ski Team at my high school.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Roy Colsey’s Team Superstar and I have participated in Top 205, Blue Chip 225, Super Sophomores, CT Super Juniors and the Battle of the Hotbeds.

Any final thoughts?
I would love to thank my family for everything they have done for me throughout this process. My father, mother and sister have all been very supportive and encouraging and I really would not be the player I am if it wasn’t for them.

Also, I would like to thank Coach Colsey for everything that he did for me throughout this entire process and continues to do for me as a coach and supporter in all I do on and off the field.

Finally, I would like to thank all my other coaches I have had throughout my career in all the sports I have played. Each one has taught me so much along the way that has helped me to become the player and person that I am today.
