Chase Young plays fast.
Speed is one of the main attributes for the midfielder from New Jersey powerhouse St. Augustine Prep’s.
So it should come as no surprise that he made his college choice quickly.
Young, the latest tristate sophomore to verbally commit, has decided on the University of Delaware.
Young will be joined at Delaware by St. Augustine’s teammate Dean DiSimone, a junior attackman who verballed committed to the Blue Hens late last year.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Chase on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision to commit to Delaware?
I decided that Delaware was the place for me because I loved the mixture of academics and athletics that they have to offer and I know that I’ll have a great time as a member of the Delaware lacrosse team.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Loyola and Michigan. I visited Loyola Michigan, Delaware, Colgate, Penn State, Princeton and Maryland
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I think that my strengths are dodging from the top of the field and getting down the alley to take a shot or to work the ball around and set up offense. My style of play is very fast. I like to take high rep, smart, shots and move the ball on offense as productively as possible.
What areas of your game do you think you need to work on?
I can always improve on all aspects of my game but I think that I need to work on my defensive skills more.
Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My parents have been great to me throughout my lacrosse career. They are the reason why I am where I am today. Also, all my coaches have been very influential, especially my current high school coach. I credit my abilities to him.
What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
I currently play on the SouthShore lacrosse club team, which is a club team that consists of most of my high school teammates.

Good job by UD capitalizing on its location to get commits from both St Augustine kids – DiSimone and Young.
I am surprised by the number of players who are making these verbal committments so early in their Junior, Sophomore and most recently Freshman years. Things have changed for sure in this category since I played in the mid 90’s
