It’s title time.
Among the headlines:
* Garden City, Shoreham-Wading River and New Canaan will be trying to win both boys and girls titles.
* The GC boys, making their third straight title-game appearance, last won a championship in 2000. The GC girls are looking for their seventh straight championship.
* Shoreham-Wading River’s boys, fresh off a big win over Bronxville in the downstate semis, are looking for their third title overall and first since 2007.
* Darien’s boys team hopes to win its seventh state title in the last eight years in the final game of the only four-year starter in school history, Duke-bound attackman Case Matheis, the Blue Wave’s all-time leading scorer.
* Ridgefield and Fairfield Prep meet in a rematch of last year’s Class L state title game, won by Ridgefield in overtime.
* There will be no team from New York’s Section 3 (Central New York) in the boys finals for the first time since 1979. Irondequoit, which upset two-time defending state champion Jamesville-Dewitt in the upstate semifinals, is making its first title-game appearance since losing to Yorktown in 1993.

Winning a State Championship means SO much more in NY where if you don’t win your section, you’re out. There’s none of the lose your section/county & you still get a bid to states. It’s lose & go home. Makes you wonder about a team like CSH who played as well as anybody vs SWR or Syosset who gave WI as good a game as anybody too. Winning NY means mote then any other State & the 3 LI schools are truly VERY SPECIAL!!!
More not mote Iphone error
Meant Ward Melville not Syosett My bad
11-4 GC State Champ
Goalie was the possible diff, better team won.
2006 LI champs. A – West Islip. B – Huntington. C – Cold Spring Harbor.
That was the last time LI swept the three state title games before this year.
CSH in C, not Set
Congrats to all the LI teams on their sweep today.
2 comments on Shorham Wading River:
1) On the opening FO won by Notre Dame bound middie Brasco,a terriffic player, he went to goal and scored. Unfortunately he was decked (cross check not in the head but he hit it going down) and had to leave the game with waht turned out as a concussion–out after maybe 10 seconds!! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
2) Wondered why they didn’t win Class C last season–didn’t realize they were in Class B then. Even though in C now coming into the Bville game they played teams including, Garden City, Sayville, Comseqogue,Huntington, Mountain Lakes (NJ)–a perennial NJ power, Cold Spring Harbor. A great advantage over Bville (who in fairness did play a tougher schedule vs last season) in terms of being “toughened up” for a key play-off game by a brutal schedule.
L.I. Does it again.
Congrats to W.I, G.C. S.W R.
Cuse why don’t you ever see West Islip play Garden City? Now that would be a great game.
Cuse why is section 11, 8 so dominate over section 1 the pasdt decade or so?
It seems Yorktown is the only consistant team to come out of section , but after they win region they get bounced by G.C. or another team from that section.
IQ got frustrated and started playing dirty, the coach and team showed their true colors as a low class team when IQ had a Blatant illegal check to the head. Coach high fived the kid as he went into penalty box.
