The increased interest — and participation — in lacrosse has noteworthy over the course of the last decade.

This week, we’ve been seeing one of the major byproducts of that.

Unpredictability.

More participation means more programs being able to compete — and compete well into the postseason.

That’s been evident — especially yesterday.

Consider this.

Today’s FCIAC boys final will feature the No. 3 (New Canaan) and No. 4 (Ridgefield) seeds — with neither No. 1 nor No. 2 in the title game.

Next Wednesday’s Section 1 finals will feature a No. 10 seed (Mamaroneck, Class A) and a No. 11 seed  (Hen Hud, Class C). (Mamaroneck will be making its first sectional final appearance since 1988.) Scroll down for the Section 1 title-game tripleheader matchups.

The parity trend is also prevalent in girls lax.

For starters, the only game in yesterday’s Section 1 finals tripleheader at Fox Lane High School in Bedford not decided by one goal went into overtime as Fox Lane defeated Brewster 11-9 behind North Carolina-bound Under Armour All-American Sammy Jo Tracy’s seven goals.

Parity sure made for an interesting day.

So too did Round 3 of St. Anthony’s vs. Chaminade.

And for the second straight season, the Friars of St. A’s downed Chaminade in the CHSAA Class AAA title game after losing the Flyers twice during the regular season. Final: 8-6.

In the CHSAA Long Island AA title game, Kellenberg edged Holy Trinity 11-9.

Today, Iona Prep hosts Fordham Prep in a 5 p.m. game for the CHSAA city AA title. The teams split the regular-season series.

You can watch the premiere broadcast of the Iona-Fordham game next week on MSG Varsity iO Channel 14. After the premiere, you can watch it any time on On-Demand Channel 614 and msgvarsity.com.

The FCIAC championship doubleheader is at Brien McMahon in Norwalk today, beginning at 4 p.m. as Darien takes on Greenwich for the girls crown.

The boys final — between Ridgefield and New Canaan — gets under way at 7 p.m.

You can watch both the FCIAC boys and girls championship games live on msgvarsity.com. The premiere broadcast of the boys game can be seen at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 28 on iO Channel 14. The premiere airing of the girls game will Wednesday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m. on Ch. 14.

It’s a big day in Suffolk as arguably the nation’s most competitive class, Section 11 Class A, holds its semifinals. It will be No. 4 Sachem North at No. 1 West Islip and No. 3 Ward Melville at No. 2 Smithtown West. Both games start at 4 p.m.

Now, as promised, here’s the lineup for the Section 1 boys title-game tripleheader set for next Wednesday, May 30 at White Plains High School:

Class C

No. 11 Hen Hud vs. No. 1 Bronxville, 3 p.m.

Class A

No. 10 Mamaroneck vs. No. 4 Mahopac, 5:30 p.m.

Class B

No. 2 John Jay vs. No. 1 Yorktown, 8 p.m.
