The NCAA Tournament started this week with some memorable games. (Scroll down to check out links for updated scores and interactive men’s and women’s brackets.)

Meanwhile, the playoffs are also under way.

In fact, county champions have been crowned in New Jersey in Bergen, Union and Essex counties.

The Section 8 (Nassau County) playoffs started Friday with opening-round games in Class B.

In Nassau’s Class A, first-round action starts todaywith these games: No. 8 Hicksville at No. 1 Massapequa, No. 5 Port Washington at No. 4 Farmingdale; No. 7 MacArthur at No. 2 Syosset and No. 6 East Meadow at No. 3 Baldwin.

Section 1 started its playoffs later this week. The seedings will be made on Wednesday morning.

Today, there’s a playoff-caliber matchup as defending Class C champion Bronxville (13-1), whose lone loss was at Lakeland/Panas, hosts Somers, which has made the Class B sectional final two of the last three years. Game-time is 5:15 p.m.

Also of note today, Kennedy Catholic’s nine-game win streak is on the line when it plays at Wappingers at 4:30 p.m.

In Rockland County, North Rockland hosts Clarkstown North and Tappan Zee visits Nanuet.

Also of note in Section 1, Scarsdale visits New Rochelle at 4:30 p.m. You can watch the game live on msgvarsity.com/livecast. The premiere broadcast on MSGV  iO Channel 14 will be  Thursday, May 17 at 8 p.m. After that premiere, you can watch it anytime on On-Demand Channel 614 or msgvarsity.com.

Among the games in Connecticut: Daniel Hand visits Fairfield Prep at 4 p.m. and Ridgefield hosts Stamford at 6 p.m.

In the span of a few days, several games showed the Section 1 Class A race is wide open as defending champ Mahopac ended a five-game losing streak by beating Suffern, which then turned around and beat two-time finalist Lakeland/Panas, which earlier this season beat Mahopac. The week ended with Arlington picking up what coach Donny Connolly described as “the biggest win in program history” by beating Suffern.

  1. Warrior says:

Does anyone know if the Somers/Bronxville game has seeding implications?

  2. sommom says:

If Somers wins they are the number 2, if they lose they should be 3.

    • LaxLessons.com says:

John Jay looks to be a No. 2 or 3 with Yorktown No. 1.

In case you missed earlier post, here are postseason dates for Section 1:

Sectionals start Friday with opening-round games.

May 22 – Quarterfinal at higher seed.

May 24 – Semifinals at higher seed.

      May 30 – Finals at White Plains: Class C 3 p.m., Class A 5:30 p.m., Class B 8 p.m. (Raindate – May 31)

      • LaxLessons.com says:

The Section 1 seeding meeting will be 9 a.m. this Wednesday. As always, the brackets will be posted later in the morning on msgvarsity.com.

  3. Old Rugger says:

Can someone please make sure I understand. Games against non-NY teams and the Catholics don’t count in the sectional seedings, correct? So win or lose to Iona prep doesn’t matter as far as the number calculations for seedings? Just want to make sure I understand.

  4. Sec12012 says:

Anybody know of a li reporter or someone who will be tweeting updates of the games out there later?

Timeout somers 5:05 probably stil regrouping Fr getting LOST… Rediculous!! 3-2 bville leaves a somers kid wide open in front of the net. Emo somers on a ticky tack penalty. Kid slipped & fell & ref felt bad for him. 3-3 7:22 into 1st. 4-3 H GRAS 2:41 left in 1st. 5-3 bville 2:10 left emo goal. Emo for bville coming 1:24 left. 6-3 6-4 after 1 bville

15-12 warble 16-12 warble 7mins left warble 18-12 J Gras somers giving up goals now by doubling with their goalie since the 3:30 mark. Glad bville put a hurting on a team that treated this game like a scrimmage. If I was a somers parent I would be disgusted by the lack if preparation… Pathetic. If they were ready to play this would of been much closer. 18-12 final Brewster Warble Star of the Game

    • Warrior says:

      Totally Agree.

    • slacrosse says:

      Relax,

      See my game comments below.

Maybe I’m missing something but I dont get your comment about Somers treating this as a scrimmage? I’m sure Coach briefed the kids that Bville was a talented team. “Lack of preparation”? Just because their bus arrived late? The team arrived and got in their required pre-game warm-up–end of story right?

Bville scored within 5 seconds on the first FO win with the kid going right to goal for the score. No excuses. they know they were in a game. They lost face-offs, gave up the ball needlessly, had sub par shot selection, gave up too many close in goals by a team that was patient and had some very good key players.

      • Sec12012 says:

slacrosse-your right man.I heard Somers even practiced on Sunday Morning.Somers is still a great program and solis team this year, but not clicking.

      • Relax says:

When you get lost & show-up at gametime you’re not prepared. I reread your comments below & it certainly sounds like you’re saying somers didn’t play well. I’ve watched them vs Nisky, town & bville. They seem to be on a downward spiral & since bville posts they are a great program I’ve got to wonder if not being prepared is a part of this spiral. I don’t know what time they let school out but somers to bville in a school bus should take about an hr. If you get the kids on the bus at 3:30 w/ a 3pm dismissal Fr school you’re at the ville at 4:30. Guess they were lost for 45mins to an hr. If they could of left sooner. Elite programs make sure they’re ready to go. I’m not sure that happened but WHATEVER. Wonder how they’ll do in B playoffs? Maybe somehow they can get it together because the nisky game is the best I’ve seen them & I know there’s some talent on that team. Oh well. Whatever

    • Bville says:

      Relax-

Do the bville program a favor and save your commentary on star of the game. Tonight was a team effort. Period. Taking nothing away from your star who plyed a wonderful game, did you mention 18 saves from our goalie? Did you mention the 6 rides for turnovers by the bville atk? Did you the mention the 21-31 from our fogo? Did you mention the 10 pt effort from the boy being guarded by the somers D1 pole. Did you mention the 7 pt effort from the frosh atkmn? Did you mention the bville d that gave up no goals in the 4th quarter? also, stop mentioning players performances by name. They’re not being paid to play this great game. Report the scores and let the experts handle the commentary professionally.

Great programs the likes of town, jj, PAC, lp, and somers don’t speak of individual players. They speak of the team. Please do the same if your going to talk about the bville program. It was a really nice win for the boys tonight and something to build on for the playoffs

      • Relax says:

Thanks for the stats coach. When you have a momentus win like yesterday you should get the numbers on the blog, like Darien & ‘town games. I knew your Hopkins bound attackman j GRAS was lighting it up 10pts.. Nice I saw Rutgers watching A. Walsh win a nice % of his FO. Impressive. It was good that the D shut ’em down in the 4th because that game was an up & down shootout. Didn’t realize your goalie had that many saves. Glad the game was played considering it was getting late on a potentially dark evening on an unlighted field. Witj your opposition showing up at gametime & allowing them 25mins to warm-up & not posponing again was nice. I don’t know what the forfeit policy is not being an expert, but thanks for playing the game. Hopefully it will help when you get the LI champion. I know a few section teams want to keep that from happening

  14. Sec12012 says:

18-12 bville final.somers and jay sure aren’t headed in the right direction going into sectionals.Giving up 18 today?ouch

  15. The Rock says:

North Rockland over Clarkstown North 17-2

  16. Sailors Fan says:

Wow, I’m impressed. Congrats to the Broncos. This does not bode well for the rest of class c … but hey, you still have to play the games.

  17. ... says:

At 7 goals on the day against a top team, I’d have to agree with Warble as MVP of the game

  18. Warrior says:

Surprised Cousins gives up 18? Of Course, I have no ideas what kind of Defense he had in front of him?

  19. LI Guy says:

Pequa up 11-0 in the 2nd half

  20. slacrosse says:

OK “Bronco Bob”, NOW you’ve got something to crow about!!

Bville 18, Somers 12 (incs 2 empty net goals by Bville when somers doubled late in game). It was a 1-2 goal lead for Bville for most of the game until the last 3-4 minutes.

Totally impressed by Bville today. It’s not that Somers played poorly (sure could have played better), just that Bville outplayed them. If not for Somers goalie making some tough saves, Bville could have Keys to Bville’s win were controlling FO’s, patient and good shot selection and having the advantage in loose play. Very impressed with Walsh at FO,both Grass kids who did lots of damage and Warble whose speed allowed him to do damage in loose play as well as around the goal.

Again I dont think Somers played a poor game and had good stretches of O and D. They just came up against a talented Bville team that played quite well. Stats would prob show Somers taking more shots then Bville but I thought Somers shot selection could have been better. Too many wasted shots missing by large margins taken from outside. Also Somers gave up possession too often from being stripped from behind–simply lost track of Bville players right behind them swinging at their sticks, etc, etc. Lastly, earlier in the game Somers goalie came out of the cage to double Grass who to his credit, freed his hands and scored on an empty net!!–why get cute and come out of the net at that point?

Congrats to Bville. A very nice effort and signature win over a tough opponent.

  21. john jordan says:

I’m not sure I understand the venom on this board re: Somers. I don’t think I can recall any Somers “pumpers” this season so I don”t get it. But it has been constant. To suggest they didn’t take the game seriously is unfair not only to bunch of teenagers from Somers but it also is direpectful to a very good Broncos team.

Good luck to both teams in the Sectionals.

    • slacrosse says:

Agree per my 9:52 comment above

    • laxforfun says:

Obviously you are new to this board because the venom towards Somers is not new…go back and read old posts. The fact that Somers had the audacity to beat JJ just fuels the fire, read ’09. Somers never claims victory nor do they boast about a victory or how big of a margin they beat them or that they cleared their bench – who cares, that is rude and rubbing it in the other teams face.

    • Old Rugger says:

      Well said!

  22. Seeding says:

Anybody know if Ardsley dropped their team. Do not see a score after May 9. It effects the seeds

    • A Lacrosse Dude says:

Ardsley did not drop their team. Their last game of the regular season is tomorrow at Monroe-Woodbury…Talk about a rough season for Ardsley going from 9-9 last year to just one win this season. At least they have a good chance at going out with a win.
