Lakeland/Panas and John Jay fell just short of Section 1 championships last year.

LP lost to Mahopac in the Class A title game while John Jay lost to Yorktown.

Today, both squads meet.

Expect this one to be a defensive-oriented affair.

LP has allowed a total of just eight goals in two games (wins over Mahopac and Bronxville) since falling in overtime to Greenwich 9-8.

John Jay has given up five goals in each of its last two games (a win over Mahopac and loss to Ridgefield) and has allowed double figures in a game just once (an 11-10 overtime loss at Manhasset).

The game is at 6 p.m. in Cross River.

The other headliner in Section 1 is a 6:15 p.m. game at Charlie Murphy Field between defending Section 1 champs Mahopac (Class A) and Yorktown (Class B).

Also today in Section 1, Arlington visits Brewster, Byram Hills plays at Pleasantville and Harrison hosts Horace Greeley at 4:30 p.m.

Among eight Section 9 games, Warwick plays at Monroe-Woodbury at 4 p.m.

In the FCIAC, longtime rivals Greenwich and New Canaan meet at 4 p.m. at New Canaan’s Dunning Stadium. Elsewhere, Darien hosts Danbury and Staples visits Fairfield Ludlowe.

On Long Island, a 4:30 p.m. meeting between host Syosset and Port Washington highlights a 10-game Nassau County slate.

In Suffolk, Huntington visits Shoreham-Wading River at 4:30 p.m. among 12 games in the county.

The CHSAA slate includes a matchup between St. Anthony’s and Iona Prep.

  1. Former Bear says:

Arlington by 5 over Brewster today.

  2. Pops says:

Although I would love that outcome, but I see a total dog fight like the last 3 or 4 games between these 2 teams. Its gonna come down to the wire. Both teams seem to be playing their best lax to date. Should be a good one. If both teams play well, regardless of the outcome they will both be better for it by the days end….

  3. laxer says:

Both teams similar across the board I gave a slight edge to Brewsters Defense and Offesne talent wise however Arlington might play a better team game. Hands down Arl has the upper hand in the cage, kid is solid while the Brewster goalies leave A LOT to be desired. Brewster has the tools to scare some people and make a run in sectionals but their goaltending is holding them back right now. This game should be a good one if Brewster shows up, lately it takes them a half to start playing. That happens today it might be too late against a good arlington team with a very solid defense. Brewster puts together a full game they win this but they keep playing like they have been and this one can get away from them quickly. Looking for a big game from this team especially in the cage. I know there are a lot of great games going on today but this one might be the best one come 4:30 .

  4. from the bottom 1/2 says:

not top 10 action but an interesting game in one of the weaker leagues. Croton plays @ Ossining today 4:30. I’m thinking this is for the league (other teams are Keio, Westlake, Blindbrook, Briarcliff… these two have obviously taken care of those teams)

Croton won 5-0 a few weeks back, the only time they’ve been held under double digits, also the only team with a winning record they’ve faced. Ossining is on a run of double digit scoring games now as well looking much improved since the first week of April. Croton has PV coming up in a few weeks, if it can get passed Ossining that would be the final challenge to finish the reg season undefeated going into the playoffs. If Ossining can win they have their league games which could put them on a win streak coming into the final game against Brewster, good to see a strong team before the playoffs.

kudos to Ossining staff, they have a young team (no seniors i can think of), and have scheduled tough non-league competition Pelham (9-1), Tappan Zee (6-5), North Rockland(6-4), Brewster(6-5), Sleepy (rivalry) and Nyack (beat 6-4 North Rockland). Croton also has a lot of sophomores and juniors seeing a lot of time but went the other route (2 with Haldane, Irvington, Lourdes, but they will play Put Valley)

  5. Warrior says:

Brewster/Arlington game should be a backyard brawl. I dont see either team winning by more than 2 unless someone is flat.

  6. Sailors Fan says:

Hen Hud 11, Wappingers 3 (final)

  7. Relax says:

1-0 JJ 5:46 1st another barn burner. It’s all about possesion 1-1 7:46 into 1st. Wow can’t believe it JJ scores on a fastbreak! 10:30 of the 1st 2-1 Ref waves off a JJ goal for a crease violation. They would have scored 2 goals in 1:25 unheard of on this field of late. 2-1 JJ after 1

  8. JOMO says:

    Kennedy 17 Lourdes 0

  9. Relax says:

L/P scores 2:58 of 2nd 2-2. They will get an emo coming out of a timeout. JJ wins the FO you know they’ll not try for a mandown score. They burn a couple mins & score 3-2 4;55 of 2nd JJ up. L/P’s had chances to tie & finally do 9:27 of the 2nd 3-3 L/P gets an emo off a hold. They cash it! 4-3… Now we’re talkin!they win the FO & miss on a Fastbreak! L/P tryin to open it up. They have a 4-3 lead 1:18 left in the half. 4-3 L/P halftime

  10. Syracuse says:

Yorktown up 3-0 on Mahopac early

  11. sec12012 says:

    Yorktown up 4-1

  12. Relax says:

Halftime Prediction. JJ will try to control the tempo just like ‘PAC game, But L/P’s offense & FO man won’t let them lay in wait to pounce at the end like JJ did to ‘PAC. L/P wins because their O is better & JJ’s waiting game doesn’t work tonite

  13. sec1 says:

5-1 Town end of 1st, mahopac has won more FO, but Towns D the diff

  14. sec1 says:

    6-2 getting chippie

  15. sec1 says:

7-2 Gately with last 2 goals, very chippie game

  16. sec1 says:

    8-2 Gately from Manning

  17. bearlax says:

As predicted brewster/arlington was a battle of endurance and just a hard fought tough game for both teams. Brewsters offense stepped up and hit some key shots late. Arlingtons goalie played great but there is just so much the kid can do after a while. Brewsters defense allows one goal in the 2nd half and really shut down arlingtons offense. Just a really hard fought game as these two teams always play, big win for the bears and a setback for the admirals. Ground balls were the key in this game and it seemed like Brewster always got the key gbs while arlington didnt connect on some fast breaks. Brewsters goalie steps up and has a stellar 4th .

  18. Relax says:

JJ playing w/ a Lil more urgency. They score 4:48 into 3rd 4-4. JJ scores refs take it away, because of an inadvertant whistle & flag? They get a goal a Lil while later. 5-4 JJ after 3. L/P had a BAD qtr.

  19. sec1 says:

    8-3 Half Sloppy

  20. sec1 says:

    9-3 A Fusco to Gatley

  21. Relax says:

6-4 JJ 1:10 of 4th. Timeout 4:02 left L/P’s ball. They need a goal. JJ’s D & Goalie shut L/P down & out for all of the 2nd half timeout JJ 1:46 left. L/P doubles w the goalie til JJ calls a timeout w 53secs left. Rebels need a miracle. Don’t get it 6-4 JJ final

  22. sec1 says:

10-3 Raniola from Gately 2sec left end of 3

  23. Relax says:

    Tale of two halfs…4-3 L/P 1st half…3-0 JJ 2nd half… WOW

    • Indian J says:

John Jay’s waiting game is more dangerous/ frustrating than it is perceived . They will have to generate some offense to get to the Sec finals and do well,, but at the same time, they’re not kidding around with this scheme either.

      • Relax says:

JJ’s on a collision course w/ ‘town in the sect.1 B playoffs. Somers isn’t going to beat this JJ team. Can’t believe they beat them earlier this yr. JJ’s goalie & D are playing really well. Lambert is some kind of player. Get ready for a heck of a game when they meet down the line!

        • Bender says:

They’re going to need a boost on the offense before we jump to conclusions. 6 goal games won’t be enough come playoff time.

          • Relax says:

Who else is going to contend with ‘town for B? Somers, a 7-5 team that hasn’t looked good vs Nisky & ‘town. I’m not jumping to conclusions. I’m stating facts. JJ plays a slowdown deliberate style with great D & an unbelieavable goalie. They are obviously Well Coached. I’ve watched them beat ‘PAC, play Ridgefield tough in a 1 goal loss & beat L/P last nite by 2. You must be coming off a Bender to think there’s another B team that will contend with them other than ‘town. The only way I’ll change my mind is if Somers can beat Bville by 3 or more goals Sat. Otherwise JJ is the other B team in contention with ‘town

          • Relax says:

6 goals is plenty with the slowdown style JJ plays. Like I’ve stated, ‘town is the only team that might be able to pull JJ out of their deliberate slowdown style. If they get into a shootout the advantage is in ‘town’s favor. If the winning team scores 7 or less goals, trust me it will be a very close B final. If you’re a Somers fan, you better hope your team catches fire soon, because B is all ‘town & JJ right now & JJ’s better & more dangerous than the “haters” think!

        • Old Rugger says:

JJ plays to the other teams level, The D including goalie is very strong (Schurr is a great D coach) The O is not strong (Schurr is not a great O coach.) This team will be able to stay with anyone as long as they can win a few FOs as their deliberate (Patient) offense and methodical zone D with a strong keeper will keep them in most games but will blow away almost no one. They need to stay healthy and hungry. Town and Somers beat them. There are no syle points.

          • Relax says:

Decent breakdown. Patient & methodical yes. Playing to other teams level yes, although in the Greeley game they broke out of playing down to HG’s level in the 2nd half & opened the game up. JJ is playing very good as the regular season winds down. #10 is a stud. If he can get his hands free & place his shots watch out. Obviously Schurr can coach the D. Offensively, they’re going to need one more goal then whoever they’re playing which didn’t happen vs ridgefield. I still think they’re ‘town’s #1 competition. Somers needs to win tonite vs ‘PAC & sat. vs bville to change my mind. JJ can play w/ anyone in sect.1 for sure

  24. sec1 says:

    11-4 Connor V

  25. sec1 says:
