Sometimes, we forget that the game itself is not the biggest thing.

And that the games are just that – games.

So when those in the lacrosse community come together to embrace a cause that’s so much more than the score, it’s especially refreshing.

We’ve seen quite a few examples of that the last few week.

With the annual Reg’s Rock game between Manhasset and Chaminade and Yorktown-Somers game to benefit the Stephanie Crispinelli Humanitarian Fund.

Today, we have another.

When Scarsdale hosts Nyack at 4:30 p.m. today, the name Welles Crowther will be front and center.

Crowther, who played at Nyack High School and Boston College, worked in the South Tower of the World Trade Center, where he died during the 9/11 attacks. His bravery directly resulted in saving the lives of at least a dozen people, as, with a red bandanna covering his face to protect him from debris, he repeatedly reentered the building to save lives.

“He was a counselor at my Hudson Valley Lacrosse Camp for years and I played club lax with him,” Scarsdale assistant coach Brendan Curran said last week.

Scarsdale has launched an effort (as has New Canaan High School) to sell Red Bandanas to honor the memory of Crowther,

“All players will wear red bandanas, and we will sell them,” Curran said. “The proceeds go to the foundation set up by his parents.”

There’s a big battle in Rockland when Clarkstown South visits North Rockland. Also of note in Section 1, unbeaten Dobbs Ferry hosts neighbor Ardsley, New Rochelle plays at White Plains, Pelham hosts Eastchester, Bronxville plays at Mamaroneck, Irvington hosts Edgemont and Sleepy Hollow hosts Hastings.

On Long Island, the nation’s top-ranked team, Garden City, hosts Kennedy Bellmore. Also at 4:30 p.m., GC’s main rival and Saturday Woodstick Classic opponent, Manhasset, hosts Levittown Division at 6 p.m.

In Suffolk, West Islip visits Walt Whitman at 7 p.m. Smithtown West plays at East Islip at 4:45 p.m.  and Northport visits Half Hollow Hills at 4:30 p.m.

Heading over  to the Garden City, Summit (12-0) visits Delbarton (8-3), which is coming off back-to-back wins over Mountain Lakes and Fairfield Prep.

Of course, there are other boys and girls lax games in the tristate region today. Scroll down to check the links to access the complete schedules. But if there’s a game you think we should have noted, by all means, be sure to post the info ASAP on the “Comments” portion of this thread.

Don’t forget to check in with in-game updates and final scores from the field with your mobile devices. You can post them directly as comments on this thread, or, if it’s easier, email them to us at info@laxlessons.com.

Looking ahead to later this week, three-time defending CHSAA champion St. Anthony’s visits defending FCIAC champion Darien, winner of six Connecticut state titles the last seven years, on Saturday.
