The tradition-rich Yorktown-Chaminade rivalry will be renewed today.
Two of the region’s top programs, both of whom are unbeaten, are set to square off at 5 p.m. today at Chaminade’s Ott Field.
Yorktown is considered to favorite to win Section 1 Class B. Two other Class B contenders, Brewster and John Jay, meet in Cross River. Also of note, Fox Lane visits Suffern, Putnam Valley hosts Somers and Lakeland/Panas hosts Penn Yan.
Among 11 games in Suffolk, Harborfields (4-0) plays at Hauppauge (3-1) and Comsewogue (4-0) hosts Elwood/John Glenn (3-2).
In Nassau, among 13 games, Hicksville plays Long Beach at 7 p.m. at Long Beach Middle School. Also at 7 p.m., Bethpage hosts Mineola. The day begins with several 10 a.m. games and an 11 a.m. contest between Lynbrook and host Baldwin.

I’ll predict cham 8-5.Hope york proves me wrong.
Gonna be a great one! The amount of college commitments between the 2 teams is well over 30. Very impressive.
My opinion:
Connor Gately is the most talented player on the field Tuesday night. I dont think there are too many defensemen in the country that can stick with him.
Predition:
Town – 11
Chaminade – 7
False, Ryan Lukacovic is a better attackman.
u guys r insane… Chaminade is gonna kill em
Cham – 11
Yorktown – 3
You are probably right. I can’t remember the last time a Section 1 team beat a big time LI team. Ward Melville, St. A’s Smithtown West, Farmingdale, Manhasset, GC, West Islip etc…always the same result. Don’t tell me about Mahopac over Northport…port hasn’t been a real contender in Section 11 in the better part of a decade. And John Jay over Syosset doesn’t count for much either.
town beat chamindade in 2010. Looking for an exciting game today.
Unless John Ranagan and Kevin Interlicchio put on the Green and White again today as they did in 2010, I wouldn’t look for Yorktown to prevail at Chaminade’s field.
Cham 12 – Yorktown 6
Whoops, Ranagan had already left when the Huskers beat Cham that year, my mistake.
I don’t know, John Jay ending Huntington’s 63 game win streak at Hofstra in the 2007 state semis seemed pretty big.
But I get your point.
no…that is exactly my point. 2007 is 6 seasons ago. that’s a long time.
And believe it or not I’m rooting for Yorktown
I gotta take Chaminade. I think they win 10-7.
Town in OT. They have the guns to score on chaminade this year and they will be focused. They will be hungry for a big interregional win.
Both teams loaded, I’ve bet against Town in the past in this game and suffered. My only concern with Town is the goalie play looked a little rusty in first game of year with JJ.
Cham 9 Town 7
Chaminade cannot contain Ytowns attack of Fusco, Mariano and Gately…Not many teams can.
Ytown – 11
Cham – 10 (OT)
Ytowns D of Hopkins, Cuse, Rutgers should be a nice matchup for Chaminades O
In the other Sect 1 games
Early season predictions have not seen many play yet.
JJ 9 Brewster 5
Pville 9 Pelham 8
Somers 11 Put Val 5
Suffern 10 FL 7
Kennedy 12 Nanuet 9
HG 9 CL S 6
DF 11 Keio 3
SH 10 CL N 9
Oss 15 Westlake 2
Hen Hud 19 Peekskill 1
Harrison 9 Nyack 7
Rooting for Town of course but will go 12-8 Nade
Rooting for Town of course but gotta go 12-8 Nade
Anyone know if there will be a live stream or someone tweeting updates from the game (and where)? Wish i could go – going to be a great game – YTown hasn’t had this much bench depth in a few years. go town.
Chaminade up 3-2 early
Ytown down 3-1 with 6:36 left in the 1st.
Just received score update its 3-3 Yorktown game.
How long before we know about JJ v. Brewster ?
JJ 6 Brewster 5. Brandon Lew scores game winner a little over 3 mins to go
Uggg. A win is a win, but certainly some concern about J.
Agreed. No excuses, that’s two in a row now.
There are no style points. John Jay won. Done.
Brewster is a pretty darn good team and they seem pretty committed to getting better.
4-3 Yorktown – scored on man up.
4-3 Town after 1
Hmm… seems as I was already proven wrong, and I’m happy ’bout it. Let’s go section 1!!!!!
Also yeah what about Jay vs. Brewster?
5-4 Chaminade mid second
Yikes 9-4 Chaminade. Come on Town! Dig in boys!
whats the score?
13-6 Chaminade.
15-7 end of the thrid
Town’s gonna rebound against Smithtown West on Sat. Chaminade’s the best Non-PG team in the Tri-State
Nahh.. Town is just not that good. Welcome to strong island!
Yadda Yadda Blah Blah Blah I was at St Ants when Town Beat Nade at the Lead the way Benefit. None of you strong islanders gave em a chance then. We’ll see come Sat Playa
That was two years ago, get over it. Town fans ALWAYS predict a win over their LI foes (of which they play several every year). Just because they were right one time over the span of 2 or 3 years doesn’t mean that Yorktown is as good as the elite teams on the Island. Also, I was at that game, which Yorktown won 11-9, and to be honest I felt the better team lost. Chaminade sleepwalked through that game, and woke up halfway through the fourth quarter (and proceeded to knock in 4 or 5 goals, and had opportunities fro more that were denied by the red-hot Town keeper Koelsch). I’m not even from Long Island so I say this with no bias at all.
We know where you’re from. Elitistville….
better elitist than self-entitled. there’s enthusiasm and then there’s over-confidence/delusion.
sorry, but i don’t see a section one team beating li.Also, niskayuna is very good this year and I think will beat sec1 champ.
Isn’t Nisky in Class A?
I’d argue that they are ahead of the PGs, as are several other teams in the tri-state…Deerfield and Salisbury are down this year relative to the past couple of years.
I’ll trust the experts Like IL & the other National25 that both have Salisbury & Deerfield in the Top 10. Trust the experts know more than you
The “expert” is a guy 3 or 4 years out of high school with a heavy (if unintentional) bias towards the MIAA and his alma-mater St. Paul’s. He’s knowledgeable and puts in a lot of work, but I don’t think that the rankings at this stage of the season are all that insightful. The guys who put together the rankings go mostly off of the number of D1 recruits, and while that may work for a preseason ranking, I think that the play of the teams so far doesn’t seem to be backing up top 5 national rankings.
Ty doesn’t have much of a bias towards SP or the MIAA actually.
I may have been too harsh, but there is a stronger than impartial affinity IMO. I’ve seen the forums, and he is way more forgiving of St. Paul’s and other MIAA teams than he should be; St. Paul’s has two overtime wins against teams with losing records, and he still argues that they aren’t that bad. Also, the presence of 11-7 Boys’ Latin (a team that choked down the stretch nonetheless!) in the final Lax Guys’ Rankings was absurd IMO (I don’t know if that was Ty’s doing or not, though, so I won’t place that squarely on him).
15-8 with 6:40 left on the clock.
What’s the Final Score?
I love the way you guys try to win games and championships in this forum.
Kennedy 13 Nanuet 0

Town beat Cham in 08 09 and 10. St Athonys in 08 and 09. Chaminade was bettere today, no doubt. Midfield is excellent. Great team.
and they lost to ward melville in 08, 9 to 1. in 2009, with ranagan, they lost to WM 8 to 6. in 2010 they lost to WM 9 to 4. in 2011 lost to smithtown west at home, 9 to 8. what do all of those games have in common? Town lost to the runner-up in section 11 each year.
John Jay Fading fast!!!!!!!!
Why doesn’t Brewster play Yorktown this year?
Junk Yard Dawg, Your owner must be blowing the “funny smoke” into your face. I was at the New Fairfield scrimmages and Brewster barely beat New Fairfield 5-4. Byram played New Fairfield and beat them 6-5. Trust me I wouldn’t wish a Yorktown match up on Brewster or many other Sec 1 teams this year.
Sincerely,
Your Local Dawg Catcher
I was at the new fairfield scrimmages too. That was Brewster’s last game and they were playing a bunch of guys who didnt play all day. Players that never ever see the field. After being there for 6 hours there wasnt much left for that game. Brewster played an outstanding game defensively today. Totally shut down #10 who sat on the bench while the teams were shaking hands, real class act there, some team player. Your team wins but you dont get any points so you sit there and pout, classy. Jay was good but not as good as the past. Goalie may be up there in the section w/ Alleyne as best around. Well played game by both teams Brewster made a few mistakes at the end, not use to playing in close games like that shows.
Excellent point “Sec 1 lax” about the new fairfield scrimmage. Brewster did play everyone! Scrimmages mean nothing. I wouldnt say Jay is fading as much as Brewster on the rise.
Junkyard Dawg,
Brewster never shys away from playing the best teams and they didnt this year.
I felt Town’s potent offense could have scored more today but in the second half Town gave a very talented Cham team too many possessions giving up FO and ground balls. Among others, Fusco (can he rip it!) Gately, Mariano very impressive.
Jay out 4-1 then the wheels fell off. A few missed slides around the crease, Sloppy attack, lots of dropped or errant passes, many procedural and warding calls, no hunger or discipline on attack, but they could have won by many if anyone on offense moved off the ball after they were up 4-1 they played Catch in a circle with little off balll movement. All fixable but not sure if it can be done by Thursday. Faceoffs didn’t hurt them.
No. 11 on brewster a great athlete after Lambert he seemed strong.
Old Rugger, You know who number 11# is for Brewster, its the Harry” The Beast” Erickson. “The Beast” will be working on his craft for Albany beginning next year.
As it relates to JJ attack. They are good ball handlers but not much in the way of shiftiness to draw the slide or create own shot. More like Maryland Terp’s attack of last year, big & lumbering, holding the rock a little too long sometimes. Still early will work out the kinks.
That’s a shame. Getting into a dangerous situation like that when you know the bullseye is on you. Who could be more dangerous for Jay than Rye, Brewster, and Somers ? Jay’s O is inconsistent but maybe they can be in top form for Thursday. They will have to be if they are to beat a fired up Somers team. Somers…..
how about some scores all you d-1 all american wanna-be’s
Pelham 8
Pleasantville 7
Town was not prepared to play and got handled. On to the next won boys.
Lakeland Panas score?
5-2 Penn Yan
Fox Lane 9, Suffern 5
Suffering is way over rated.
Brewster barely beat fairfield because they jumped ahead 4 goals in 5 minutes and literally took every starter out till it was 4-4. They took pac and j to ot. Show some respect before you bash a squad built on tenacity rather than talent. Theyve got work to do but they can have and will compete with the big dogs. However yorktown is currently the obvious leader in class b/section 1
Excuse me. J to a very close 1 goal game
Hen Hud 11, Peekskill 3
Greeley beat Cl South 9-4
#16 on Brewster can sure rip it. He had 3 goals and 2 assists for brew, which was all their points. Looks like the bears can compete in sectionals finally.
Penn Yan 5, L/P 2
Congrats to Chaminade and to Case Matheis on his accomplishment.
Somers -7-5-5-0–17
Put Val -2-1-1-1– 5
Somers Stats:
Anthony Carpenter 1 Goal / 4 Assists
Kevin Cousin 5 Goals/
Mike Ashikari 2 Goals/
Marc Fiocco 1 Goal
Chris Marasco 1 Goal/ 1 Assist
Tim Cousin 1 Goal
Alex Corpolongo 4 Goals/ 1 Assist
David Rubenstein 2 Goal/
Saves / Chris Cousin – 11
Yorktown really does not have much of a chance on Saturday, sorry to say.
West 15, Town 9
Thanks for the information on Smithtown West. Yorktown has the talent this year to geither win or give anyone there a game. Workiing together, following the coaching instructions will be key. Everyone had a job and when the play together they will be and can be serious force. I will be watching on Saturday.
Tell me about the type of school Smithtown West is? Chaminade a Catholic school that draws kids from all over the area. I campare this to the summer elite teams playing playing a one town only team. I am not making excuses for Town so no replies that I am looking to make excuses. Just wondering the make up of Smithtown West. I am looking forward to following this game on TV this Saturday.
They are a public school of about 1400 made up of about half of the former Smithtown High School that was a combined school between 1992 and 2005. Smithtown won the county championship by defeating Sachem , Northport, and West Islip in succession in 2003, but have never advanced past the LIC either as a combined team or separate. This may be their best team ever, however, as they doubled up WM yesterday 12-6.
Not that fall Lax counts for much but saw Smithtown west play at SWR this last fall and they were loaded. I thought they and SWR were the two strongest at the tournament. (Granted fall ball with missing players etc.) The offensive ball movement was very quick and lots of shooters.
Laxr- not sure if you know, but I’m LI13.
It was my decision for the most part to rank BL at the end last year. Eye test and good wins. They had better wins than half of the top 25, there was really no question in my eyes that they were one of the top 25 teams in the nation.
I actually argued to have them ranked this week at 7-4, but Ty overruled me for the IL rankings.
I did know that. Again, I said I was a bit harsh on Ty. My main point was that the “experts” can only go off so much in the preseason, and right now the rankings (which still include DA and Salisbury in the top 5 when they might not be top 5 caliber) need to be taken with a grain of salt. Also, when you are narrowing down the entire country to the top 25 teams, eye test can only go so far. Boys’ Latin finished 11-8; that’s not even a 60% winning percentage. If you are in the top 25 NATIONALLY, you don’t lose 40% of your games. They scored one win against a top 25 teams despite countless chances. Who knows, maybe they do beat all of the teams you ranked them over if they played them, but their is just as much reason to think they don’t, and at 11-8 they don’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. I don’t see how they warranted a higher spot than Ward Melville (16-2 with wins over GC, Smithtown West, Sachem North, and OT loss to WI), Bridgewater-Raritan (who knows if the 4th/5th best team in the MIAA is better than the best in NJ, but when you go 11-8 I don’t think you deserve the benefit of the doubt), Summit (same reasoning), Darien (best team in CT, beat St. A’s, only losses at Haverford and Set before injuries buried them – not as strong an argument as the other 3), etc…
LI Lax it’s no use trying to explain the rankings to someone who knows All. It’d love to see what a Good PG Prep like Salisbury would do against GC or any of the Publics that don’t play against teams with PG schools because of age limits. I had to compete against these guys when I played at TP. That extra year can make a big difference. Look at what it did for Pannell.
