There will be a game within the game when Byram Hills visits Clarkstown South today at 5:15 p.m.

The contest features an intriguing goalie battle between two of Section 1’s premier netminders — seniors Andrew Larrabee of Byram and Kris Alleyne of South. Larrabee, who became the Bobcats’ all-time saves leader last week (surpassing Pancho Gutstein), is bound for Notre Dame. Alleyne, a three-year starter, is headed to Rutgers.

CHSAA rivals Fordham Prep and Iona Prep, who met three times last season with Fordham Prep winning each time, renew their rivalry at Iona Prep.

A new coaching staff hopes to help take the Pleasantville varsity program to the next level.

The Panthers’ new coach is Chris Kear. Kear’s assistant is his father, Bob Kear, the founder and former coach of the John Jay program.

Pleasantville hosts Fox Lane today at 4:30 p.m.

Also of note, Hen Hud, which has moved down to Class C from Class B, takes on Lakeland/Panas, which has advanced to three straight Class A sectional finals. The game is 7 p.m. at Lakeland High School.

Fresh off its 8-6 win over John Jay, Yorktown visits Putnam Valley for a 1 p.m. game.

The Rye-Harrison rivalry is renewed on the lax field as the teams meet at 4:30 p.m. at Harrison.

Somers, which won its opener 14-6 over Iona Prep, plays at Arlington, which fell 10-4 in Game 1 to John Jay.

A 4:30 p.m. game between Lawrence and host Bethpage and 7:30 p.m. contest featuring Syosset and host MacArthur are among 13 games on the Nassau slate.

In Suffolk, Mercer Island, which lost to Ward Melville yesterday, plays at Comsewogue today at 4:30 p.m.

In Hudson Valley’s Section 9, Minisink Valley visits O’Neill for a 4:30 p.m. contest.

    Predictions today:
I like Rye over Harrison it will be closer then one thinks 10-8.
Arlington at Somers I think Somers is better then advertized 12-9.
Hen Hud @ Lakeland/Panas upset special 14-13 in a barn burner.

Looking forward to Thursday’s game Chaminade St. Anthony’s worth the trip.

  2. Laximus says:

Final: Yorktown 12, Put Valley 4

  3. slacrosse says:

    Final: Rye 10, Harrison 6

  4. AJax says:

Nice job Byram. Big win boys!

    • Lax Observer says:

Kris Allenye was standing on his head in goal.

      • Just sayin says:

YEh Byram pulled out the way but Alleyne was definitely the star with 18 saves winningbthe goalie battle and showing why he should get the Section 1 goalie spot for AA this year.

        • Lax Observer says:

I completely agree. Kris is the best goalie in the section and a lock at AA.

          • What? says:

This happens every year and I’m not really sure why. Take a look at CTS schedule. When the two best teams you play are Greeley and Suffern, your numbers are going to be good(If not great). Don’t get me wrong Ive seen Allenye play a few times and he has talent, but his team plays not 1 “elite” level team. Its way more impressive to have 18 saves against a Yorktown, John Jay or Manhasset than it is to have 18 against Byram or Greeley. This is similar to the debate about Cameron Stephens being the best goalie in the section last year, he was great playing the teams and talent he was playing, but when he took the jump to the next level he was just not as prepared as Kevin Duffy the JJ goalie at OSU, thus Duffy saw time in the fall and Stephens sat.

The AA discussion in the end usually revolves around strength of schedule and if your team was in a position to win a championship, and I dont really anticipate Allenye putting CTS in a position for hardware.

Cousins, Branca and Larabee are the 3 kids who are going to get the vast majority of the votes.

          • Huh? says:

Agreed, this happens every year, and rarely does the debate go anywhere useful. However, I’ll bite and respond, mostly because your argument is flawed in a number of ways.

First, All American honors don’t go to the best goalie on the best team. The honor goes to the most talented players at each position. Whether they play at CS or JJ. I don’t think anyone has delusions that Alleyne can lead CS to the section finals but if his plays at a high levels all year why not consider him for AA.

Second, CS plays Yorktown. That will be Alleynes chance to play an “elite” level team that you can use to gauge his abilities. Looking at the BH schedule I don’t see a single “elite” team that Larabee will be playing, so why does he get a majority of the votes?

Furthermore, your comparison of Duffy and Stephens is off….Stephens played and succeeded at the varsity level last year. Duffy was backup to Branca, no? Was Duffy prepared to step into OSU based purely on practice? Stephens and Fraylick were both studs last year and it’s a shame that neither one got the AA nod.

Section 1 is stacked with quality Goalies…Alleyne, Larabee and Branca leading the pack. But lets not kid ourselves that a kid doesn’t deserve AA because they don’t play at YT, JJ or the other select few programs deemed “elite” in sections 1.

  5. Ram Tough says:

SiCk win for Fordham. 11-10 over IP after being down by five in the 2nd half. 4 straight vs Iona!!

  6. IP says:

Fordham goalie made some great saves in the win

  7. Rebel Yell says:

    LP 6 HH 1

  8. Sailors Fan says:

Lakeland Panas 6, Hen Hud 1 (final)

  9. LaxLessons.com says:

    Final: Somers 7, Arlington 2

Anthony Carpenter 3-1, Chris Cousin 11 saves

    • old chool says:

Ya first and foremost Chris Cousins had 7 saves the Arlington goalie had 21. He also faced 32 shots the first half and made 14 saves in two quarters. Report the game the way it was played.

      • Sailors Fan says:

Chillax old school. It’s a blog, not a news wire. Joe simply posts whatever scores/info that is emailed to him, and he does that as a favor to the many readers of this blog who do not have smart phones that can post scores to directly from the field. If you have a different take on a game, or other info, post it yourself.

        • SirLaxalot says:

Well said Sailors fan. This is the best lacrosse blog I’ve ever seen due in large part to the fact so many read it in the first place, and secondly, many of those who do contribute info and scores. Get with the program, “Old chool.” Considering though you are not able to even spell your own handle correctly, I kind of doubt you have much to offer unfortunately. Prove me wrong.

      • Lax Novice says:

Wow. Then Arlington is even worse than first thought. Thanks for the info.

  10. DPAC says:

At the Iona/Fordham game. Super comeback from Fordham. Even though they were giving up too many penalties and couldn’t win faceoffs, they showed grit in fighting back in a wild game. MSG Varsity picked a good game which is a great rivalry.

  11. OL Husker says:

Anyone know if it is true that Somers had over 40 shots and scored 7 goals.
Arlingon keeper must have had some day . 30 + saves????
Somers offense really clicking to get so many shots in two games??

  12. ?????????????????????? says:

    It called Quality shots

  13. ?????????????????????? says:

Somers has not played a D YET IN THERE FIRST TWO GAMES.80 OR MORE SHOTS AND ONLY 21 G SCORED.HUMMMM

  14. LaxLessons.com says:

    Final – Eastchester 7, White Plains 3

E – Tom Cirillo 5-2, Matt Power 2-2, Matt Gendusa 11 of 17 FOs, Joe Arcidiacono 15 saves

  15. Setter says:

Final – 8-5 Set over CSH. Closer than expected – much – but a win.
