If this week’s action winds up producing anything close to the excitement we saw last week – and most specifically on Saturday – then get set for a wild ride.

Most schools in the region are off on break this week, which means starting times will vary — with morning, afternoon and evening days games.

That’s the case today.

In Section 1, starting times range from noon (North Rockland at North Salem) to 7 p.m. (Nyack at Suffern). There are also a couple of rivalry games, including Sleepy Hollow at Irvington (4:45 p.m.) and Scarsdale at White Plains (4:30 p.m.). Rye opens its season with a 5 p.m. game against visiting Iona Prep.

Garden City and Manhasset, who played in a doubleheader Saturday at the St. Paul’s School in Maryland, are both back home. GC, which beat St. Paul’s 9-6, hosts Elmont. Manhasset, coming off a 6-5 loss to Calvert Hall, plays Roslyn. Both games are 4:30 p.m. starts.

Ward Melville, which has been getting strong play from junior goalie Danny Nimerov, hosts Mercer Island of Washington state in a 3:30 p.m. game. It’s one of just three games in Suffolk County today.

Before we close, we have a quick programming note. Tonite is the debut of Lax Monday on MSG Varsity’s “SportsDesk” at 7 p.m. on MSG Varsity Channel 14 (Optimum). If you miss the premiere, catch the show later in the nite on Ch. 14, or anytime on On-Demand Channel 614 or msgvarsity.com.

Viewers in the Hudson Valley/CT region can then watch the John Jay-Yorktown game on Channel 14 at 7:30 p.m. while viewers on Long Island can watch the West Islip-Chaminade game at that time.

One of the biggest showdowns this week will be CHSAA rivals St. Anthony’s and Chaminade squaring off on Thursday at Chaminade. Who do you think will win?

I’ll go with Rye 13, Iona Prep 8

    • Old Rugger says:

Like the goal differential but lower score as defenses usually progress faster than offense, 10-5 Rye

    Any update on Rye-Iona game?

Congrate to IP. Good consistent play all over the field.

Rye came back to get within 1 at 10-9 and then IP moved ahead for the win.

Rye’s 1st game. Need to really tighten up it’s overall play but particularly D and ground balls.
